Sharon’s Story

Site created on October 30, 2014

Welcome to our CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends and family updated. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement during this time when it matters most.

On May 21, 2013, Sharon saw her family doctor for what she thought was a gallbladder attack, but instead the ultrasound found a mass which was later diagnosed to be a gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST). In June 2013, she began doctoring at University of Minnesota Medical Center and began taking a pill form of chemotherapy. During July, the PET scan revealed the GIST cancer was responding well to the chemo but a spot was discovered on her left breast, which turned out to be breast cancer. In November 2013, a lumpectomy was done to remove the breast cancer and no further treatment was completed. As the doctors felt they would rather monitor the breast cancer than disturb the treatment of the GIST tumor. All seemed to be going well with the GIST treatment the first nine months of 2014 with the GIST cancer responding to the chemotherapy, however, on October 9 during a routine checkup with the breast cancer doctor, another spot was discovered on the left breast. The biopsy confirmed that the breast cancer had returned. This is where our journey now continues.

Journal entry by Jamie Bleeker

It’s hard to believe that over a week has passed since God called my mom home. She is dearly missed but I’m grateful that her six-year battle against cancer is finally over and she is no longer suffering.

Our family has been overwhelmed by the love and support shown to our family over the past six-years as mom battled cancer. We are incredibly grateful for all the cards, encouraging words, meals, visits, and prayers during this time. Cancer is never an easy journey to go through, but constantly having the love and support from friends and family around you makes the journey a little less harsh.

Thank you to all who were able to make it to celebrate my mom’s life at her visitation and memorial service. It was wonderful to hear stories and see the many people my mom impacted during her time here on earth. For those who would like to watch the funeral, below is a link to the service.

Thank you all for the wonderful blessing you have been to our family.

Sincerely,
Jamie

Glorious Day by Casting Crowns

One day when Heaven was filled with His praises
One day when sin was as black as could be
Jesus came forth to be born of a virgin
Dwelt among men, my example is He
Word became flesh and the light shined among us
His glory revealed

Living, He loved me
Dying, He saved me
Buried, He carried my sins far away
Rising, He justified freely forever
One day He’s coming
Oh glorious day, oh glorious day

One day they led Him up Calvary’s mountain
One day they nailed Him to die on a tree
Suffering anguish, despised and rejected
Bearing our sins, my Redeemer is He
Hands that healed nations, stretched out on a tree
And took the nails for me

One day the grave could conceal Him no longer
One day the stone rolled away from the door
Then He arose, over death He had conquered
Now He’s ascended, my Lord evermore
Death could not hold Him, the grave could not keep Him
From rising again

One day the trumpet will sound for His coming
One day the skies with His glories will shine
Wonderful day, my Beloved One, bringing
My Savior, Jesus, is mine

Oh, glorious day
