Serenity’s Story

This is my daughter Serenity's story.

Serenity Grace Miller was born on November 9, 2007. She was a healthy baby 8 lbs 2 oz. She never got sick or anything (except for the occassional ear infection). Imagine my "surprise" when I discovered blood in her poop. I FREAKED!! I took her to the hospital, and they admitted her. A couple days later they diagnosed her with HUS(hemolic uremic syndrome). Her platelets went dangerously low to about 6,000, her spleen and liver were enlarged, her white cell count was high, and a bunch of other things were off. Well, her platelets went up, and they thought that she was in the clear. She would be fine, so we went home. And a couple days later we met with Dr.Hanson, oncologist. All the above were still abnormal. On November 3rd, 2008, she was diagnosed with JMML. My heart broke. My baby sick? That happens to other people's kids, not to me! I was devastated, and I think I was in shock until we found a donor. Then God gave me peace and determination to do whatever I can to get my baby better.

The love, support, prayers, and encouragement from my family and friends has been overwhelmingly appreciated!
