Wow, I can't believe it's been a week since I last updated. Last week was crazy but we survived...
barely! Terry made it home safely from his trip so that's a bonus as well.
The Johnston four had their well-child visits bright and early last Tuesday morning, June 16th--in celebration of Terry's birthday--s
mile, smile. (Terry was out of town so we really couldn't officially celebrate his birthday anyway.) Of course, Sawyer had no fever and the doctor couldn't find anything wrong with him...so I guess his sickness (fevers) last Sunday/Mond
ay were just a passing thing...let'
s hope. This was Sawyer's first well-child visit in 2 years. He wasn't too excited about being there...he was actually fine until it was his turn to be examined. He tried to quietly sneak out the door. The three boys had to get shots and they were not thrille
d one bit! (Sawyer hasn't had any immunizatio
ns since he was one so I was surprised that he only has 3 to get caught up. He had one at this visit-the one he was supposed to have at his 15 month checkup and then the next he'll get at his 4 year old check up. He may never have to get the 3rd one as right now there is a national shortage of it.) I forgot to mention that before this visit when I told Sawyer that he was going to get a shot, he asked, "Where am I going to get poked?" He's had his port for almost 2 years that he just expects that's where he'll be poked. Since his port is gone, he wondered how he could be poked. When I told him it'd be in his leg, he responded, "It will hurt."
Wednesday was Hunter and Bridger's first summer swim meet. This was actually Hunter's first swim meet ever and he did great! He was the youngest boy for his race and he came in 4th place! Way to go, Hunter! Of course, Bridger came away with several ribbons--tw
o firsts, one second, & one third place.
Thurs
day (June 18th) was a super exhausting day for me...I started out the day early (7:30 a.m.) with my own doctor's visit. I made it home barely in time to pick Sawyer up and get on the road for his oncology visit. Thankfully, traffic wasn't too bad and we made it there right on time. (I'll write more about this visit later.) We made it back in time to drop Sawyer off at home and for me to pick up Makenna from her two day church camp and head to yet another appointment.
We were finally home for good at 4:30 p.m. Phew!
About a month ago I was selected to host a Domino's American Legends pizza party on June 20th. Since Terry was out of town on his real birthday, we decided to have this party in honor of his birthday. Nice to spend time with friends, to have oodles of pizza and to not have to pay a dime!
Okay, now for Sawyer's MRI results and oncology visit update. On the way up to the clinic, Sawyer asked, "Where are we heading?" When I told him we were headed to the poking doctor, he said, "But, Mama, my baw baw is gone." I guess he's associated his "baw baw" with having to go to the poking doctor. So with it gone, why should he be heading there? Poor kid.
I was hoping for a quick visit since we didn't need a port flush and were basically there for MRI results. No luck...we had to wait, and wait and wait. We were able to meet with Dr. Lawlor--he'
s the doctor who was assigned to us after Dr. Meany left 15 months ago--in those 15 months this was only our 3rd visit with him--the months inbetween we've been tossed from doctor to doctor. No fun.
Disease
-wise he said Sawyer's MRI looked great. He just said there was a mild inflammatio
n of the sinuses, middle ear cavities and mastoids.
He said this could be caused from a sinus infection, etc.
Well, after Sawyer's pediatricia
n's visit on Tuesday, his nasty cough flared up again--the one he's had for almost a year. Thankfully, Dr. Lawlor was able to hear the cough. He prescribed some new medication and if that doesn't work, we'll for sure be headed to the pediatric pulmonologi
st.
Dr. Lawlor was surprised that the nurses didn't get any blood work so he sent someone in to get some blood. Sawyer was not too excited about this--they just did a finger prick--Sawy
er's first. He was fine after the initial prick and actually liked watching his blood drip out.
Dr. Lawlor said he'd like to see us back in 2 months and then he'll decide if Sawyer needs his September scans or if we can wait till December and just do everything then...his scans and his full skeletal x-ray. We're hoping we can skip the September scans and just shoot for December as September is turning into a busy month for us.
Well, I think that's all...thank
s again for checking on our sweet Sawyer. You'll have to check out Sawyer's blog to see his recent drawings--h
e's becoming quite the little artist.
