Sam Radke's Journal
Written Sep 1, 2013 10:11pmI can't believe I forgot to say Happy Birthday to Ben in my last post! Sarah even brought over some German Chocolate cake so we could have a party. Max thought we should just drive to Ben's house so we could share it with him, apparently he forgot how far away Germany is;) Happy Birthday Ben and good luck on your run next week!
Written Aug 27, 2013 12:02pmSam had his first day on kindergarten last Friday and he loved it! Mike took him to school (so mom wouldn't embarrass him with her tears) and I guess he didn't even want dad to walk him into the building, he knew where his classroom was;) Mike had to point out to him that other parents were walking their kids in before he finally gave in and said it was okay. Once they got inside he let go of Mike's hand and headed off. He was so fast Mike couldn't even get a picture of him going into his classroom. All he got was a shot of his back halfway across the room. According to Sam their first day consisted of four recesses, lunch, snack, a nap and meeting time (where they dance and sing). Who wouldn't love a school like that? Yesterday he came home singing parts of the book "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" and he told us what an author is so he does pay attention. Two of his buddies from Kindernook are in his class so we hear more about Nolan and Alex than anything.
I finally got some more recent pictures out there. These are just a few of the things that kept us busy all summer!
Happy Birthday Aunt Bethany, Happy Birthday Aunt Denise and Happy 8th Birthday Katelyn!
Written Jul 18, 2013 2:00pmOn Sunday Sam acheived another important milestone in his incredible journey, he is now 4 years post his 2nd transplant! It is hard to believe it was 4 years ago already, it seems like just yesterday:) We have made some progress in terms of Sam's medicine over the summer. He has now been off of all of his oral meds for about a month and everything seems to be going smoothly. We also made the changes to his smoke and shake at the end of May decreasing them to once a day. He does still get a shot once a week but both Dr. Bleesing and Dr. Raasch want him to stay on that until after Kindergarten at least. With all of these changes we no longer have any medicine to do in the morning and I must admit I still feel like I should be doing something in the morning.
We have had a very busy summer though. Between baseball, gymnastics, swimming lessons, the library and now bowling (Will and Katelyn), our summer has flown by. Mike had to inform us yesterday that school starts in 30 days. Sam and Max are excited because they are starting something new but I think Will and Katelyn would be happy if there was another 30 days of vacation on top of that.
Happy 7th Birthday Lauren, Happy Birthday Grandpa Dale and Happy 13th Birthday Eric! We hope everyone enjoys the rest of their summer.
