A couple of side notes...
When Sam's G-tube was removed, we had a case of Jevity 1.5 left over. This formula comes in cans with pull tabs, shrink wrapped and in cartons. Pretty tightly sealed and secure I would say. Now, this is fairly expensive stuff, and we hated to see it go to waste, so I set out to find a home for it. What I found was that no one would take it. Not the company that supplied it, not the Red Cross, no hospital would touch it, no rehabilitation facility, no group home. I was told this was because once it had left a controlled facility, it's safety couldn't be guaranteed. Finally, a woman whose organization couldn't take the nutritional formula, said her daughters mission group would take it. I was happy to drop it off and am glad the formula will be put to use, but keep thinking...should it be so difficult?
On a brighter note, we received a phone call yesterday from the Brain Injury Association. They were offering to bridge the gap between the services we were receiving and those we still needed. I was delighted to tell them, and they were delighted to hear, that Sam needs no additional services, and is indeed not receiving any services at this time. Clearly, this is not the norm and we do not take Sam's good fortune for granted. We continue to pray for those less fortunate who struggle with physical challenges and recovery and we appreciate the blessings bestowed on us...
Live fully,
Brigit
