Sam fell today.  Slipped on doggie slobber…and of course, the dog, not being able to use a cup for her water or a napkin for her chin, got quite a earful from her big sister!

So there Sam is on the floor, screaming…the dog runs away and Matthew is on the toilet yelling “I need you, Mom!” I called my wonderful neighbor Jereme who came rushing over to help me get Sam off the floor and into the POS little Kia go-kart rental car (POS Van is in the shop to the tune of …wait for it…$1650 plus tax and rental). Anyway, I wiped Matt’s bum (yes, he was on the toilet when this all went down) and the 3 of us go barreling out of the house to the NEW hospital that is not quite built yet (St. Joe’s North) but does have an after hours clinic there and just so happens to be less than 2 miles away!  Did I mention how much I love this neighborhood?!

Got the wheelchair from inside, got Sam out of the car into the chair…and got her inside…paid the $40 co-pay, and we were good to go.  Matt was using her crutches (from last months fiasco) as guns and was shooting her which she did not appreciate at all and shortly thereafter I was calling on Kim & Ernie yet again to come get “Matt the Brat” so Sam could have me all to herself…God help me.  Thanks K & E, yet again!  :~)

Long time and long story…but the outcome is this.  The left ankle is bruised.  The left foot appears to be ok.  The doc thinks that the line she sees (which is vertical) on her 5th right meta tarsal (I am sure I got that wrong...but the bone of her foot b4 the pinky toe ~ left foot) is actually from growth and not a fracture because most fractures are horizontal, not vertical, and this line appears to mirror what healthy growing bones look like. Fingers crossed…she will feel better in a few days and will be good to go.  If not, we will go back to the orthopedic doctor, Dr. Bradley…which we are due to head back there anyway for more x-rays of her feet to see where she is at…after last months episode with the Osteopenia/bone infarction diagnosis.

She does not have a splint on as Sam, being Sam, let the doctors and nurses and tech’s (and everyone else in ear shot) know what she thought about them attempting to get her foot at a 90 degree angle and the splint on.  Let’s suffice it to say, it didn’t work.  NO ONE, and that includes the pregnant doctor, could convince her it needed to be angled at 90 degrees.  Yes, it was embarrassing and yes, I just stood there with my arms crossed (probably smirking and cringing at the same time…if that is even possible).  I am pretty sure she was not only hurting but pretty pissed off that they would not listen to her and kept trying to push her foot into place.  And yes, Sam’s lungs still work VERY well and YES, turning on the tears, and kicking and screaming like a 2 year old actually worked (this time).

Tomorrow after VBS, Sam & Matt will go with their dad to Grandma & Grandpa’s for a few days.  Both kids are very excited to see G&G and also VERY excited to see their Uncle Ivan and 2 cousins!

Thanks for checking in on Sam (and Matthew) and for keeping them in your prayers... Peace & Hope to all.
