We thought for sure, after 2 days off of the 6-MP, we would start to see Sam's ANC begin to go up at today's clinic visit. Nope. She continues on the downward trend. Her ANC at the clinic today was 320 (normal ANC is at least 2000, 500 and below is considered neutropenic). This means her ability to fight any type of infection is very low at this time. She didn't get the Methotrexate but they did decide to have her start back on the 1/2 tablet of 6-MP. We're bummed but the good news is that she is feeling fine. In fact, one of the newscasters at tonight's live broadcast even made a comment that she seems "the picture of health". We will go back to the clinic again Monday morning to get another CBC to see what her counts do by then. We want them on the rise!! We have tickets to a Cubs game in Chicago on Wednesday.
We went to the live broadcast WMBD did from Roanoke tonight at 5:00 and 6:00. It was neat to see. Samantha had fun and even got to speak a little when the reporter introduced her story on the 6:00 news. (Not a shy bone in her body.) It was a beautiful night. Hopefully the weather will cooperate tomorrow night for our fireworks in town. Although, the doctor reminded us to avoid the crowds this weekend so I think we will just watch them from home. We had to do that last year too when her counts were very low last 4th of July. Yuck!
Happy 4th of July! Please keep Samantha in your prayers that her stubborn ANC starts to go up and she doesn't pick up anything while her ANC is so low. Great news from Dax Locke. They found out this week that the percent of cancer in his body has gone from 4% to 1%. The bone marrow transplant has been cancelled. He will continue on with his oral chemo. They were hoping to be home in another couple of days. Our God is an Awesome God!! We are so excited for his family. Thanks for continuing on this journey with us and checking up on us!
Love,
Liz
