Sadie’s Story

On December 19, 2012 Sadie was taken to the ER in Tomball, TX with complaints of tingling and mild paralysis on her left side. After testing her and doing a CT scan, they found 3-4 tumors on her brain; one operable but the others are not. She was in surgery to remove the largest of them within 12 hours. The others will be taken care of with chemo/radiation at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital where Sadie spent 7.5 weeks to undergoing both pill and intravenous chemo along with pin-point radiation therapy. She is currently on round 2.
This is a documentation of her journey to get her well and back to the happy and healthy 8-year-old little angel girl that we all know and love!

Prior to December 19, Sadie Coogler was a happy and healthy red-headed, full of spunk, 8-year old little girl.  She started having tingling sensation and stroke like symptoms on the left side of her body.  Her mom and Step-dad took her to the ER in Tomball, TX  where they immediately sent her to Herman Hospital, in Houston.

Once there, they did a CT scan with contrast which revealed one large tumor on the outer lobe on the right side of her brain pressing against the motor cortex and three smaller ones very near the cerebral cortex.  Within 12 hours, Sadie was in surgery to remove the larger mass but the other smaller ones were inoperable.  She spent 4 days in the hospital and was able to go home on Christmas Eve; Only four days after brain surgery! What a blessing!

Once the pathology report came back, it was revealed to us that Sadie has Stage 4 Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), a very aggressive brain tumor that is rather rare in children.  Sadie was admitted into St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN on Friday, January 11 where she spent 7.5 weeks under going pin-point radiation as well as pill and intravenous chemotherapy.
Sadie came home for a four week break on March 4, 2013 and returned to St. Jude on March 24th.  Her follow up scan revealed that the tumors had decreased in size! (WHAT A BLESSING!) She came home on March 28 and began her second round of treatment with Texas Children's Hospital in Houston.  She will be on a 5 day on/15 days off rotation for 1 year, while returning to St. Jude every 2 months for follow-up scans.
This second round of treatment has been a BOOGER BEAR! Her platelet count has dropped tremendously so she is at risk for picking up any kind of illnesses as well as internal bleeding from minor bumps and bruises.  So, she has to be handled with kid gloves! One day/one second at a time! EVERY PRAYER COUNTS! Please send yours up today.....right now! Thank you prayer warrior! Thank you for taking the time to read this and to care about our daughter! God Bless you and your family!
