Life is finally getting back to normal for us....whatever normal means. Ryne's back in daycare today and I'm very proud to say he didn't through a fit like I expected him to -- he was very big and brave. His therapy schedule resumes today as well....today was speech with Ms. Susan; tomorrow is preschool (OT and speech) and the OT with Ms. LeeAnn; Thursday is preschool (PT and speech); and Friday wraps up our week with PT with Ms. Tammy. What a week!
Ryne's becoming quite the little performer. Yesterday, I heard the boys playing the radio VERY loudly in Ryne's room (Ryne can't reach it so I knew it was Greg that had turned it up). When I investigated, Greg and Ryne were shaking their "booties" as Ryne kept saying. Greg defended himself by saying, "You can't dance well without loud music." Now, those of you who know my husband will know that dancing is a relative term for him.....to me, what he does can only loosely be referred to as dancing. And to Ryne....shaking his booty consists of waving his arm back and forth -- his butt doesn't move (I have no clue where he got that as shaking his booty). And from that point on yesterday, I'd hear Ryne say, "Shake, shake, shake....shake your booty." Pretty funny.
Other current Ryne-isms.....he LOVES undressing himself from the waist down (I guess shirts are still a bit hard to get off for him). A couple of days ago, I went to wake him up and found him in his bed naked from the waist down (and of course, he'd peed, so there was a pleasant mess to deal with before work). And then this morning.....I had Greg check him when he left at 4:45 and Greg told me he was still dressed. Yeah....I guess Greg didn't notice the big white diaper on the floor in front of Ryne's bed -- but this time, he left his PJ bottoms on. And again, of course, he'd peed. I'm getting pretty good at giving him a bath as he stands in the tub and I dump water on him....of course, he doesn't like that too much because he doesn't get the chance to play in the water. For that matter, I guess I'm getting pretty good at stripping the bed too. lol
I guess this might be the beginning of getting him to potty train. He showed some interest a while back, but he lost that interest quickly and I haven't been able to get him to show much interest since. He will ask to go potty, but usually that just means that he wants to wash his hands and as soon as his bottom hits the toilet, he says, "I wash my hands." We had planned on starting after the holidays, but with my crazy work hours in January, it's just not a good time to really dive into it. I might put him in his Mickey Mouse undies for a while tonight and see how that goes.....maybe then he'll understand that he really doesn't want to pee on himself.
He's really doing well speech wise. It's getting easier and easier to make out what he's saying. As far as the others......his only using his righty as a support. He will hold something with it if he can brace it against his body. He's walking OK....we haven't gotten fitted for the new brace yet, but that should be happening soon. Still sounds like it's going to be a hinged AFO. I'm interested to see how that goes. As far as his hand brace for righty....well, I can hardly get him to keep it on and I don't know what else I could do to keep it on him.
That's about it from our world. I hope everyone had a wonderful new year!

On a completely different note....my heart just absolutely breaks for John Travolta, Kelly Preston, and their family. If their son's death was caused by a seizure, that's just very sad. It makes things a bit more real especially in light of Ryne's seizure activity in October after his birthday.
