Hi, Lela. This is Art, Rosemary's friend.
I still think of Bob and your family which was so wonderful all last year during very rough times. Memories are important to all of us, and these are good memories.
Whenever I pass by Bob's home I notice that his plants are still well-attended. I'm not much of a horticulturist, but it seems the Christmas cactus is pretty pot-bound. So, I had a thought that goes back to my Dad. I still care for a Christmas cactus that he had on our front porch when I was a child (I'm 67). Over the years I have parcelled off pieces of it to friends who knew him and to my children.
I don't know who'd do this or whether you might think it presumptuous of me to suggest, but wouldn't it be great if people who wanted a memory of Bob with them could take a small root cutting from it and put it into a 3" pot and take it home with them? They're pretty hardy (the evidence is that I haven't killed mine yet!) and they should also leave enough so the house still has its own substantial plant.
I don't know what you think of this, but it's just a thought of how to perpetuate the memory of a truly wonderful person and his tremendous family.
My Christmas plant is next to my front porch and I never look at it without thinking of my Dad.
Happy New Year.
