Bithday Girl!

Our "Little Missy" is now two years old! Her actual birthday started very early with her two year check up at the hospital, and then a flu shot to follow. Not a very nice birthday present...but had to be done! She did so good, aside from being very fussy from getting up so early! My mom and Grandmother went with us since they were in town...what a nice treat for me that was! I am usually solo on these appointments since it is hard for Michael to get off work sometimes, so having the extra hands and ears during the appointment was great! I loved the doctor we had this time around (with some much needed persistance on my part!) She is a mother to a three year old, and knows what it is to have those "mommy instincts!" She listened very intently to all my concerns, and didn't make me feel like an over paranoid mother! Most of my concerns were laid to rest for the time being as she reasured me that Raelyn is very healthy and no reason to believe anything related to CDH is going on....besides the reflux issues (which is very minor!) She checked her hips and back, and said all looks really well there...they do more scoliosis screaning when they turn 3. No follow up wiht the surgeon unless Raelyn starts showing signs of CDH related "stuff." (My concern was having her scar tissue on her diaphram looked at to make sure it isn't breaking open as she grows and then causing her to rehurniate.) She assured me that it is uncommon, but not impossible...but if the surgeon's released Raelyn from having follow ups back then...it was for good reason. And, unless anything comes up, no reason to need to go see a surgeon. She did put Raelyn on reflux meds (15mg) pill a day. And, Oh boy.....have I noticed a difference already! With the combined pill and "new" way of feeding her recomened by the doc (VERY small portions on her plate to reduce being overwhelmed by all the food) Raelyn has been eating like a champ!! She NEVER eats all her food, and most of the time I am lucky to even get a few bites here and there....she is now eating ALL of it, and asking for seconds and even thirds! I feel like I have a different child lately!! We think she has been feeling so "icky" for so long after she eats that over time she as started to associate food with not feeling well...and who wants to eat when you know you are going to feel aweful afterwards!? She so far is not just eating better, but has also slept through the night for 3 nights straight!! I can't remember the last time she has done that! So...for us this is such a huge accomplishment, and an answer to prayer! I guess I just really need to follow my gut instincts more often and continue to be persistent! It pays off! As a parent and a mother....NOBODY knows your child the way we do..and we are our children's advocates and voices when they are this little! So, I keep praying that things stay this way, and by the time I take her back in three weeks for a med check, she has gained more weight! (She is now up to 23lbs 12 oz)

Her birthday was great! We had a small party for her here at home with Nana, Papa, and Granny in town...which for her was the best birthday gift of all! She LOVES them sooo much, and when Papa is around nobody else exsists! What is it with little girls and thier Papa's? I was the same way with my Grandfathers! Something about a Grandfather's that is so special and safe! I always think of how I would crawl up on my Grandpa's lap and cuddle with him when I see her with my dad! I miss my Grandpa so much, and wish Raelyn could have met him! Something always tells me he has been watching over her since the day she was born!

Raelyn was as usual spoiled rotten by parents for her birthday, and has enjoyed all her neat new toys, and with the help of my mom she had a pretty butterfly cake that was scrumptious! (Thanks Mom and Grandma!) I couldn't have done that one myself...and I think those "homemade" things are so special to do sometimes!

So...send us some good "eating vibes!" And hopefully she continues to do so well on these reflux meds! I am looking forward to going back to the doctor and giving her a good report on how Raelyn has done with them! We will see what happens from there....

Miss everyone back home!
