Hi. Rachel's journal entries are so inspiring and real they totally make me strive to be a better man. I first heard of Rachel during the state hockey tournament. I then found her on this site, and I've been reading her journal entries since. I lost my sister to cancer about 3 years ago. Reading Rachel's journal entries and story makes me feel better. With all the pain and suffering, she was so strong and positive, as was my sister. Rachel's give me an understanding in some kind of way. I don't know...I'm babbling. Just know that Rachel's journal entries/story inspire me, and give me the correct perspective one should have on life. I am married 20 years to Anne, and I have 2 children ages 9 and 7. Drew and Leah. Thank you Rachel for your journal entries. Ken

Hi. Tonight Duluth East comes to Cloquet to play some hockey, and I can't help thinking about Rachel. I am a huge Lumberjacks hockey fan, but respect the Duluth East program.  My sister died of cancer a couple of years ago.  I have never met the Sandell family, but I find myself loving them and grieving for the loss of their Rachel.  I actually work for the Lumberjack hockey team.  I stream their home hockey games on the internet, and I video the games for our coaches.  I will be at the game doing my usual stuff for the game.  If you are thinking of coming to the game or in fact are coming to the game, I would really enjoy meeting mom, dad, brothers, or sisters of Rachel.  I want to give you a hug, and tell you how sorry I am for your loss. Ken

Hey Rachel/family of rachel. You have been on my mind a lot lately, even though we didnt talk much in highschool. You tend to pop into my head when I'm having a down day or when I'm worried about something insignificant. I have the little card with your picture on it from your life celebration above the mirror in my car and I was looking at it today thinking about how lucky I am. Also whenever I get into an almost-car accident I look at your picture. You must be watching my back in some way because its ridiculous that i've lived in minneapolis for almost a year now without getting into some kind of a fender bender. Anywho, just wanted to stop by to let you know that I'm thinking of you and you continue to inspire me on the daily. the love is on!

"The End and the Beginning" was so beautifully written.   Thank you,  I didnt know Rachell but followed her on Caring Bridge.  I just found out that my Granddaughter at UMDuluth, plays soccer and her friend was a   good friend of Rachels.  A small world, isnt it?  Your faith and love was so great and I am blessed to have been able to read about it. My thoughts and prayers. Vonnie Schneider

Tonight I went to the celebration of life for Rachel. I don't not know her personally, but I heard her story, and how much of a strong girl she was. She has changed my view on so many things, and she was the most amazing girl I've heard. Hearing how much she went through, but how she always had a smile on her face is amazing. I can't imagine being her, or anyone close to her. All of you guys look at this so positively, and I just want to let you know, we will all see her again one day when our time comes. The love is always on. -Sarah Holappa

Words can not express the shock and extreme sadnes I feel for all of you. I have never met Rachel, I came across her sight right when it began, because my daughter lives in Duluth. After following her journey all these months I can honestly say that her spirt, kindness and humor came through loud and clear to me. As well as the closeness and love your family and friends share. She inspired me and will continue to do so. God bless all of you. Godspeed Rachel. Kriss
