Paxton Andrews's Journal
Our Peaceful Warrior is now our Warrior at Peace
Written Jul 3, 2012 12:55pm by Kelsey AndrewsOn July 2nd, 2012 Paxton Bowe Andrews ended his battle with cancer. He passed peacefully in the comfort and protection of his Daddy's arms. His Momma was lying next to him whispering final words of motherly love and adoration in his ear.The family is devastated at the loss of their beautiful boy, but is seeking a small amount of reprieve in the notion that their baby is no longer in pain. As his Daddy so eloquently put it, "Paxton was an angel that God inadvertently let slip past his watch; once he realized his error - he called for him back."Paxton was ten days shy of his five month birthday when he passed. In those five months he changed the lives of everyone with whom he came into contact. Danna & John hope that Paxton is remembered - not for his battle with cancer, rather for his gentle spirit, easy smile, and beautiful soul. All who encountered Paxton will attest that his smile melted your heart, his voice lifted your spirit, and his eyes captured your soul. To know Paxton, was to love Paxton.John and Danna will be having a Memorial Service to honor their sweet son Paxton. Details will follow shortly. The following prayer will eternally remain, "Paxton's Prayer" - - please sing it to him as oft as you are able:Gentle Jesus. stay beside me through this day and night.
Take away my pain. Keep me safe.
Help me when I am afraid.
Make my body strong again and my heart glad.
Thank you for the love that surrounds me.So many people loved Paxton, and so many people provided their love and support to John and Danna; for that they will remain infinitely grateful.I hope that you find comfort in the following and know that Paxton was never alone and will never be alone.May Paxton rest in peace for all eternity. You will always be our beautiful baby, and our Peaceful Warrior.
Better Late than Never
Written Jun 27, 2012 10:36pm by Amy SiodlarzPaxton was admitted to Children's Hospital on Tuesday not to receive his 4th round of chemo but instead due to having a very difficult time at home. He was very congested and struggling a bit too much to breathe comfortably.Upon assessment, a viral infection was a potential diagnosis because of his congestion, high heart rate and low oxygen levels. Danna feels this is a less likely possibility as he has not had a fever. What was ultimately determined, due to Danna's watchful eye, was that there has been a long-standing medication error made by Walgreens pharmacy. Due to a math conversion error, and a misprint on the dosing label, Paxton has been receiving one tenth the appropriate steroid dosage each time he has returned home from the hospital. Each time he returned to the hospital, he would receive 10 times the amount he was getting at home. These types of sudden, drastic drop in steroid dosage is very difficult on any body. Outside of his chemotherapy, steroids are the single most imperative medication Paxton takes. As if he hasn't dealt with enough. It will be interesting to witness how correcting this mistake will effect his demeanor, ability to breathe, etc.He did receive another transfusion today due to low hemoglobin levels. Paxton will continue to wait to begin his 4th round of chemo until his platelet levels rebound. Please keep sending positive vibes that he will be able to complete this round soon.https://www.wepay.com/donations/paxton-s-angel-network
Written Jun 25, 2012 10:41pm by Amy SiodlarzLike ripping off a bandaid, let's get the bad news out of the way.Paxton did not begin chemotherapy today as originally scheduled due to the fact that his blood counts are not at a safe level to do so. He will have another blood draw Wednesday to determine if the platelet levels are at a minimal optimal level. The upcoming round of chemo, which will be his 4th, is the shorter round. It is still very possible that he could complete this round before the week is over.Relish, now, in the good news. The last round of chemo caused him to become sick just about everyday this past week. Despite this, Little Paxton was very chatty, engaging, and smiley for most of the week. "I wish you could have seen him" Danna mentioned to some of us. The photo in this post is from the highlight reel.AND, check this out...he rolled over! Right on schedule. This little sweetie is amazing. Danna swears, as much as she wanted to help him kick that little leg over to complete the roll, she didn't. He did it himself. Danna, John and Grammie cheered so loudly, they startled him a little. They'll bring down the house when he takes his first steps. Also, another special thank you to Daniel Olkives for a wonderful benefit on this past Sunday. Your hard work is deeply appreciated.PS check out the new photos. You'll want to snuggle with the little guy even more when you see his cheeks.PSS the only way to donate directly to Paxton is https://www.wepay.com/donations/paxton-s-angel-network
