Paul Rasmus, 78, was a frequent bus driver for the Chi-Hi Marching Cardinals. He loved the kids and they loved him. Paul was the driver of the bus that hit the overturned semi on that awful night.

According to Jon Tulman, Paul did what he had to in order to try and save the bus. His actions probably saved many lives and most assuredly made his own death a certainty. For those who questioned his abilities because of his age, he did exactly what he is supposed to in an emergency -- he locked the gears instead of slamming the brakes (according to the National Safety Transportation Board ongoing review). That is why the bus 2 driver didn't see any brake lights from Paul's bus.
