It's that time of year again - consider joining or supporting our 'PFLAG Pinks' team in the Komen Oregon Race for the Cure. We will do the 5K walk on September 21. We need more team members registered before August 29 to be an official team . Visit our team webpage at www.komenoregon.org. No need to walk if you just wish to 'sleep in'. And...if you would like to donate, but not on line, you may send checks made out to Komen Portland Race for the Cure to me at my home address: 2614 SE Salmon, Portland, OR 97214. Donations will be credited to 'PFLAG Pinks' Team.
My summer plans took a turn in early June when Bryan's great aunt Betty was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor. Betty died July 29 in Milton-Freewater and was buried in Spokane on August 2 with full military honors. She was a career WAC (Women' Army Corps) from 1943 to 1963. The weeks preceding her death involved several trips to eastern Oregon to help the family with her care. An extra special gift out of all of this sadness was teaming up with Betty and Harriet's (my mother-in-law) half-sis, Carol - up from Bakersfield, CA. Carol is an activist lesbian - newly legally married to her partner of 19 years - Colette. We became fast friends and 'war buddies' during a VERY challenging time.
Back in Portland now enjoying neighbors and friends and garden and baking - maybe soon will actually get the kayak on some water. Feeling good - finally made it to a yoga session yesterday and plan to be diligent about this for all of the good benefits yoga brings.
My 45th high school reunion is in September in Richland, WA...! How is it possible? Another venture to the desert this year...and trip to nostalgia-land.
Best of what remains of the summer to all........ Love, Patricia
