Summer Vacation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow, I cannot believe that June is already coming to an end. The summer is flying by very quickly. The Christenson clan has been very busy. Owen has Therapy Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday morning. On Tuesday our OT from early childhood comes to our house at 7:30am (not to early, considering Owen gets up at 5:30, so much for sleeping in this summer). On Wednesday I take Owen to Fraser for OT and Speech and Michelle has a day to do whatever she fancies. On Thursday’s Michelle takes Owen to Fraser for OT and PT and dad hits the golf course.
When we are not running Owen to therapies we are doing lots of fun stuff. We have taken a few bike rides and Owen tags behind in the burley (bike trailer). Owen received a new push car (Cozy Coupe) and loves cruising backwards, up and down the sidewalk (he doesn’t want to put any miles on it, I guess). Owen has also spent a lot of time at the local park, which are a few blocks away. He has met a few new friends that also like to dig in the sand. Owen and I also went up to the cabin a week ago with a buddy of mine and his son who is a year older than Owen. The boys loved playing/fishing on the pontoon and entertaining each other during the three-hour car ride.
Owen has had two doctor appointments this summer (not to bad). His first appoint was with his neurologist who was very pleased with his development and the fact that we have not seen any seizures. One of his medication doses was lowered over the last few weeks and we have really seen some nice developmental gains. He is really trying hard to repeat words that his mom and dad throw at him (amazingly we can recognize many of them). Owen is really into pointing at things and wanting to learn what they are.
The second appointment was yesterday. Owen had a VCUG, ultrasound (of his bladder, kidneys, and urine channels), and an appointment with the Urologist (pee pee doctor). The VCUG checks to see if urine backs up into the kidneys. A year ago his reflux was a grade 4-5 which is the worst grade you can have. This time his reflux came back as grade 2. (Owen is peeing well, way to go buddy!) If things would have not improved, he would of needed surgery this summer but the doctor is impressed with the improvements and wants to follow up in 2 years. Unfortunately, the doc still wants him on antibiotics so he doesn’t get any UTI’s(darn we were hope to lose a med for good, but better to be safe then sorry). Next week, we meet with the nephrologist (kidney doctor) to see if Owen’s kidney’s are growing correctly. In July, Owen will be meeting with an OT at Gillette; he is possibly going to have constraint therapy for his left arm (his left arm is weaker than his right), which is a result from his craniotomy.
On Saturday, August 22, our friend Max is putting on a golf tournament to raise money for Owen’s medical fund. He and a buddy are working on all the details, but I wanted to get the date out so you can put it on your calendar if you are a golfer. Please email Max or call him if you are interested in participating. (maxmgxl@gmail.com or 952-484-1932). Max will send you the details when they have the tournament solidified. One last piece of exciting new is that Channel 9 news is going to do a story on Super “O”. They are inspired by his story. We will keep you posted when we have more details.
Lots of love and thanks for those awesome thoughts and prayers,
Matt, Michelle, and One Happy Dude
