Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
I realized this weekend that it has been almost two months since we’ve posted to Nick’s site. January and February were busy months. Nick went through a rough spell during the end of January and early February. He did not feel well for about 3 weeks. He missed a lot of school and was not able play hockey. Fortunately, he has been feeling great since then. He was able to catch up in school, finish out the hockey season and is now ready to move on to lacrosse.
Nick has one more cycle of his current chemo phase to go through before he moves into a lighter phase. Starting this summer, he will receive the intrathecal methotrexate only once every three months. I know he’s looking forward to this, as he’s not a fan of the spinal taps. He will continue to take daily medications, but it’s the intrathecal methotrexate that seems to bring him down. We’re hoping this new phase will allow him to continue to become more active in sports. We believe that the stronger he is physically, the better he will tolerate the side effects of the chemo.
One last note, a co-worker of mine, Jim Sheldon, is participating in a fundraising half ironman event through the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training (TNT) program. TNT holds events such as the ironman, marathons, and bike rides, throughout the United States to raise funds for LLS. Nick will be one of his honorees. If you are interested in sponsoring Jim, you can learn more about this at: http://pages.teamintraining.org/mn/pctri09/jsheldon
To our fellow UND fans, we hope to see you at the Final Five this weekend (especially Will and Bob). Go Sioux!
Take care!
