Nick’s Story

Nick remains hospitalized in critical condition today after a hit and run driver struck him and a friend early Sunday morning on Grand Avenue several blocks east of St. Thomas' campus. The students and three others got out of a cab, and a car driving westbound on Grand struck the two students. The car did not stop.
We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement during this time when he needs it most.

Latest Journal Update

Saturday, February 15, 2014

Hi all,

I apologize for the lack of updates! Nick left Regions about three weeks ago and is now in a long term care facility in Omaha. We feel extremely fortunate for finding QLI. Given the severity of Nick's injuries at the time of the accident, the doctors never expected him to live independently. Currently, Nick is at Rancho stage 8, which is the highest level of cognitive ability we were told he would ever have. It is truly a miracle that Nick has improved so much in this short bit of time, seeing that he has been out of his coma for a little over two months. Nick's therapists are preparing him to reach his goal of going back to school next fall (something we were told he would never do)! This goal is still a stretch and will need a lot of hard work from Nick in order to achieve this. We expect Nick to make a full recovery and ask for your continued prayers and loving support.

Thanks
