Nicholas Rogers's Journal

We are moving into 2012 with a lot of hope and energy to see Nick get the improvement we are praying for. We re-visited Craig Hospital week after Thanksgiving and got a real 'thumbs up'. Doctors and therapists were pleased with Nick's progress and showed us a few things to assist us in even more. It was a great visit - next one is next Thanksgiving.
We are hoping to get Nick's manual chair soon. That will provide great therapy and more options for mobility moving forward. He has to gain a lot of strength to go very far, but we have to start somewhere.
Hope all had a great holiday season and may God bless you all in 2012.

Nick got some nice homecoming week gifts; 1) the company of Rachel Connolly to the homecoming dance 2) finally got his FES bike delivered and hooked up and 3) a BIG WC win! It was a fun week, but with new activities for Nick. Great weather for all events.
Jeremy and Matt are both enjoying their homecoming weeks this week. It looks like I will be heading to UNI, Nick and friends might go to USD and Sandy to a bridal-couples party for Katie Holbrook. I guess we will divide and conquer. Wish us luck on what looks to be a busy weekend.
That's all for now....Hope all have a great week ahead. Pat

Nick, Mom and I have a very busy week ahead. Therapy MWF. Great friend Randy Hanson, expert hunting instructor, came to the house this afternoon and field tested Nick to get his hunter safety certificate. Nick and I will be heading to Webb / Sioux Rapids area this weekend to deer hunt. SYC has a special hunt lined up for the disabled. Dad is encouraging Nick to give it a try...he is a bit nervous, but also a bit excited. We will see how it goes. Thursday night dad gets to take Nick to his first DU Banquet - thats Ducks Unlimited. His first.
Friday afternoon the FES bike specialist comes to the house to set up the bike and fit it to Nick. We are ALL excited - it has been a long time coming.
Nick continues to do pretty well in school and is adapting. His aide, Tammy Hayes, is great. They seem to be getting along great and he is very thankful to have her. He is also very complimentary of the assistance he is getting from Tiffany Manker. He says "she is awesome". All the teachers and faculty have gone above and beyond the call of duty.
Hope the great weather continues for much of the fall so we all can get out and enjoy! Take care all. Pat
