Hey all, I know it has been quite some time since I last wrote, but things have been extremely busy in my neck of the woods these days.                                                                                    I have good news and some bad news. 1st I will share the good news. Nick had his 3 month check-up Mothers day weekend, and all of his tests came back NORMAL!!!!!!!! They will see him again in early August, to remove his port-a-cath from his chest. The doctors feel they GOT IT this time around, and Nick just needs to go out there and be a normal little boy!!! He has been doing a bit better in school, thanks in part to a special teacher that works every morning with Nick for his 1st period of the day. He gives him the one on one attention he really needs right now, to get caught up. Nick has gotten a release, to participate in P.E. which has really put a smile on his face. He has missed being active wiith his friends and enjoys the excercise. He is not allowed to play in contact sports yet, but that will happen soon enough.
Now to the bad news............
On Wednesday of this week, Nick went back to school, after the weekend in Portland. It was around 11:30, and I was at work, when I missed a call from the school nurse. The message that was left. was that Nick wasn't feeling well, and that I needed to come pick him up. I wasn't able to call back right away, but within about 10-15 minutes, my daughter showed up. She told me that the paremedics were called to Nick's school and that they took Nick by ambulance to the E.R. When I got to the hospital, I was escorted in by one of the paramedics, who just happens to be a very close and dear friend, as well as our backdoor neighbor Steve.(couldn't have planned that one better if i tried) Nick was laying on a gurney in traction. They had given him morphine, to ease his pain. They thought he may have fractured his femur in his right leg. You see, he was on the playground after his lunch break at school, when another little boy decided to tackle him. It wasn't done as act of anger or anything, they were goofing around. But when Nick fell to the ground, he went down on his knee, and his thigh just kinda buckled. He said he heard a pop! They took x-rays at the hospital, and found that he had broken his femur in two!!!!
This called for an orthopedic surgeon. They scheduled surgery for 6:00 that night. They had to post-pone things a bit because Nick had eaten some lunch earlier, and they couldn't give any anestesia safely. So, we waited....and waited... and at 9:30pm he went to recovery and then to his room. They put 2 bendable titanium rods up and through his knee and secured it with some kind of screw. He will be in full leg brace for 6-8 weeks and using a walker until he can manage with just crutches. They have him on some pretty heavy duty pain killers and almost full bed rest. He was in the hospital for 4 days, but was released this morning to come home. I stayed with him each night, so it's going to be nice to sleep in my own bed. I had to take off the last week of work, but will be going back tommorow. My wonderful brother and wife will be coming Monday morning, to stay with Nick for a couple of days while i'm gone, but hopefully Nick will be getting around a bit better within a few more days. The trouble never seems to want to leave us for some reason, so if you all say a prayer tonight, please include Nick and our family. I just don't know how much more I can handle. This is getting rediculous!!!!
Thank you all for letting me vent, i really needed to get it out.
Love to everyone, Nick, Lynette & Briana
