Dear Family & Friends, Happy New Year! We hope and pray 2009 is unfolding before you with peace and joy. We "know Who holds tomorrow and we know Who holds our hand" each and every day. During these unsettling times we trust in a great and loving God.
Two months ago yesterday Nadine's family and friends gathered for her Homegoing service, and her legacy lives on. I brought in the New Year with bi-lateral foot surgery on New Year's eve. When I woke up in recovery, guess what was smiling down at me... a little Celebrate Hope Bear! I can't adquately describe the feelings and memories that swept over me. I could have been in any number of recovery units, but God allowed me to wake up where Nadine had gone before me with her ministry of hope and love! It was a bit overwhelming; I truly felt the present of Jesus there. Here's how it happened: When Dad had carpal tunnel surgery last year, Nadine gave a bear to his nurse and she placed it on the shelf in her area. (She's a Christian). You know, there's no "luck" or coincidence in the life of a believer. Nadine was really dreading this surgery for me and I've missed her during my recovery, but I've asked the Lord to let her know I'm doing great. I returned to work part-time this week -- one week ahead of schedule. It's been nothing like the awful stories I'd heard and read; no picnic mind you, but far better than I'd anticipated. Of course, I give all glory to God and the power of prayer, and thank the Lord for leading me to an excellent surgeon. I have a great nurse, too. Jim has been very patient, attentive and as always, lovingly caring for me.
Dad was planning to wait with Jim while I was in surgery -- which ended up taking 2.5 hrs -- but the day before surgery he became ill with bronchitis. He "turned the corner" last Monday after two weeks and two doctor visits. Thank God it didn't go into pneumonia! He was diligent to keep us his exercise during his illness...well, there were a couple of days he rode his bike only 5 miles instead of 10! Pretty amazing for 92 years young! Otherwise, he's doing well and enjoying his new one bedroom apartment. He's anxious to be able to go back to church Sunday. I "grounded" him last week -- it was too cold! I know he'd love to hear from you.
Peace & Joy in Jesus
Love, Linda & Jim
