I think about you a lot.  When I think about lacrosse, or someone who is sick, or pass your cemetery, or fundraising for charities, or when I was injured, or sometimes just because.  I think about the times I was around you and really it was maybe a dozen or so times.  It's funny though, how well I thought I knew you.  Is that because you were just that easy to get to know?  Anyway, I was thinking of you today and I have a friend who has a little girl that is a Riley patient.  She had a heart surgery the other day and went home today.  She is doing well and maybe it is because of Angels like you.  You made an impact on my life, both in life and death and I just wanted to thank you for being you.  Your smile and your strength live on.

Hi Treinen Family,
I doubt that you know who I am, but I took care of Michael in March 2008 when he was hospitalized at Riley.  At the time, I was a first year pediatric resident, and taking care of Michael was such a privilege.  I was really struck by his great attitude, even when he had to be feeling awful!  I was also on call the night he passed away and was there in the PICU as he was being worked on.  I have unfortunately known several Riley patients during residency who have passed away, but Michael's death was the one that I think affected me the most.  I was so lucky to have been able to get to know him even a little bit when I helped to take care of him!

I am now a chief resident for the peds residency program, and yesterday I attended the Riley Children's Foundation luncheon.  The reason I write today is that Michael was mentioned TWICE at this lunch!  The featured speaker yesterday was Tony Dungy, and he mentioned Michael during his speech (and he said he still wears the Noblesville LaCrosse sweatshirt Michael gave him!)  Michael was also mentioned in a video clip featuring a patient named Eric Metz who has organized a half-marathon to raise money for Riley.  He mentioned Michael's name when talking about a couple of people he met during his time at Riley who inspired him.

I just wanted to show you yet another way that Michael continues to touch people's lives, even now.  I know he did mine!

Sincerely,
Yvonne Spartz

We think about all of you often, and how your journey has been.  Our journey is very tough a times, and it feels like there is no end.  What keeps our heads high is our faith and knowing that Matt, along with Michael are having a wonderful time, and probably stirring things up in Heaven!  : )  We do believe and feel that he is looking out, and, of course, keeping us on track!

Much Love & Hugs,

Scott, Nancy & John

Hi Michael,

I was outside today throwing a Lacrosse ball to our dogs and thought about you. Just wanted to let you know that you’re still in our family’s thoughts and I miss that big smile of yours. You would be real proud of the Lacrosse team and the way it has grown. We have some great Senior players and some real good kids coming up the ranks. Cody had practice today and said that Coach Dinkins is doing a great job and wore them out.

Well buddy I better get going. Just wanted to come by and say hi!

We miss you,

Dear Kelly,

I loved the Turkey Trot this year.  We were at home and we looked out the window to see a ton of people walking.  We waved from the window.  It was like watching a parade.  It was so awesome.  I am hoping next year we will be able to join all of you on the walk.
