Sorry for such a delay in updating - the last few weeks have flown by and it's hard to believe that it is already December.
Mike continues to have more bad days than good - most days are such a struggle for him which really sucks as there is not a darn thing we can do about it. He does have meds for nausea, headaches and an inhaler but I think the thing that bothers him the most is just the overall feeling like crap every single day - he just said tonight that he wished that this stupid cancer would either go away completely or it would just take him. That was such a hard thing to hear but also on the other hand, I am not the one that has to go through this on daily basis, to feel like crap every single day, to be weak, tired. Don't get me wrong, he does have some good times but mostly it's bad. I think it's hard for some people to understand how he can be having such hard days when he looks so good. I will say that Mike is very good at putting on a front, it's most likely the days that he is feeling his worst that he looks his best. He just wants to live a normal life and he will do whatever it takes to hide how he really feels. For example on Thanksgiving day we worked at our church to help put on the Thanksgiving dinner, he was really struggling but fought every minute of it to stay until the very end but after we were done, he went home and slept the whole afternoon and most of the evening - he made a comment that he thought it might of been way to much for him but he just won't give in at all. We are going to the cities tomorrow, he is getting a heart monitor put on, he will have to wear it for 7 days - he also has 2 days of testing the 17th & 18th - His Doctors are trying to rule out everything that may be causing the symptoms that he is having besides the cancer.
We took a short trip to Vegas to meet my brother Todd, his wife Penny and Nephew Tanner to fulfill a couple of things on Mike's bucket list - The traveling was pretty hard on him but it was something that Mike really wanted to do and I will say that it was so good to see him smile and hear the laughter from him - that comes pretty far and few between so we are thankful for the days that make him happy. We went to the Blue Man Group and spent one day at the Grand Canyon. I would just like to Thank them all for making it possible to do those things for Mike - We love you!! I also got to hang out with one of my dear friends from my younger years, so that was a TON of fun!!
Thanks for you continued prayers
Much love & Hugs

Written Nov 17, 2013 4:47pmYikes, it's been a few weeks since I have updated - sorry! It's been a pretty crazy busy last couple of weeks - We left on 3rd after church to head over to Rochester with plans to spend the week with our friends Gary & Pam from Casper, Wyoming, Gary has been pretty sick and was referred to Mayo. We got a call on Tuesday from Mike's Dr that he had an appt at the U of M early on Wednesday the 6th so we left Rochester on the 5th and stayed overnight in the cities. After his appts, we headed back to Rochester but Mike was really having a hard time so we opted not to stay on Thursday and Friday, so after spending Thursday afternoon with our friends, we made our way back home.
Mike's sisters came to visit the 13th - 16th - We had a very nice visit with both of them.
Mike & I became members of our church today - I have to say that we are so very blessed to be part of such a wonderful church family. Our pastor is top notch with a huge heart =)
Mike continues to have more bad days than good ones, I just told my girlfriend last week that we are thankful for the good days and we pray our way through the bad days. Some days are just really tough and hard to deal with but we are so thankful that he is still strong enough to keep fighting.
Thanks for all the thoughts and continued prayers. We are far from being done with this journey, just playing the waiting game right now, which some days we don't like so much!
Have a blessed week
Much love & hugs

My confusing man
Written Nov 1, 2013 6:12pmThe last few weeks Mike has had some pretty tough days - it just seems to be getting worse so I made a call to his care coordinator on Wednesday, she agreed that I should bring Mike up to get checked so we left on Wednesday evening as he had appointments on Thursday morning. They did labs then we met with the Dr. - he was examined by 2 different Doctors who agreed that he should be further tested - they did a bunch of tests yesterday and asked that we stay in the cities overnight as they didn't feel confident in him going home until we figured out what was going on with him, today the did more testing - After all the tests came back we met with the Doctor again and they are very confused - brain scan looks good - NO tumors; Full body scan looks the same as it did in September with no new tumors; Echo looks good, his kidney function is high but hasn't really changed since he was diagnosed. They said they know something is going on but we just have to figure it out - they said they felt confident enough to let him go home for the weekend as all the really bad stuff has been ruled out. Having cancer just really complicates whatever is going on. They did do a thyroid test and urine sample before we left the cities. They are also going to schedule a few other tests - they said they are not going to give up as they know something is going on, they just have to figure out what. He will just need to rest when his body says it tired until we figure out what is causing all this. We are beyond happy that there are no new tumors, I have to say that I was pretty scared that the cancer may have spread.
We are excited that we will be able to spend some quality time with our dear friends Pam & Gary Hans from Casper, Wyoming - they are flying into Rochester tomorrow, Gary is dealing with some medical issues and being treated in Rochester. We will head over there on Sunday afternoon - Mike is really looking forward to helping with the Salisbury steak dinner at church on Sunday so we will leave after that.
If you could continue to keep my step-mom in your prayers, she had to have a 2nd surgery on Wednesday.
Thanks for your continued prayers for Mike -
Have a good weekend everyone
