My Story

Mia was diagnosed with metachromatic leukodystrophy (MLD) in Dec. 2007, after an MRI showing demyelination of the white matter of the brain.

Mia underwent a failed bone marrow transplant to treat the MLD in March 2008.  Mia, otherwise known as "her majesty," was admitted to hospice in Sept. 2008.

Her Majesty celebrated her 7th birthday April 30, 2009!

Mia has been pretty stable since the last update.  She has had a busy few weeks though.

In June, Anna turned 3 and had a party.  Mia really had a good day and enjoyed the party.  She seems to enjoy seeing kids around and playing.

Mia enjoyed a trip to the farm to visit her Grandma and Grandpa for a few days.  While there, she was able to see the pigs, horses, cows, and Shaggy mutt.  While there, she was also visited by Kelly, Polly, Chris, and her new cousin Liza.  She even got Liza away from Grandma for a turn to hold her.

Mia really enjoys getting out for her walks.  Many days she'll go on 2-3 per day.  Otherwise, Mia does enjoy getting outstide and watching movies on her personal DVD player or staying inside and watching them in her favorite spot (her bed).

We have had kitten visitor a couple of times in the last few weeks.  All three of the kids have really enjoyed having the kitten around.  While here, the kitten will curl up and take it's naps next to Mia.

In a couple of days, we will be leaving for a vacation to northern Wisconsin.  We are going to Faith's Lodge (which is affiliated with the Ronald McDonald House).  They have a lot of activities for us to do including hiking, fishing, swimming, and more.  We are all looking forward to the trip.

Happy Independence Day to everybody!  Have a great and safe summer!
