We drove to Cincinnati yesterday and are back today. Tommy came along and was good company for Meghan and I. Her treatment went smoothly but her platelets have dropped to 51. I misunderstood the trials guidelines... If the platelets drop below 100 than Meghan cannot start the second round of treatment until they recover (over 100). They don't reduce the dose of the drug until the platelets are under 25. So, Meghan got the full dose today but still needs prayers for these platelets to increase.
Next week Meghan will have her last treatment for this round and her last treatment in Cincinnati. Then she will go back to Cincinnati on July 6th for a CT scan. If the cancer is stable she will start the second round in Chicago - we sure hope so!!
Her mouth sores are much, much better! The medications really helped (Biotene and Glutamine). She had a bad cold last week which is finally getting better too. She is more tired than usual but still has lots of fun activities planned for the next few weeks.
This picture is Meghan walking the survivor lap at the Elmhurst Relay for Life. Some of her irish dance students formed a team called "Meghan's Gillie Girls!" They had a fun night, raised lots of money for the American Cancer Society, and performed a little dance show at the event. Thanks so much to the young girls for honoring Meghan, she had a great time with you all.
We had hoped to go to Washington DC this week for a Curesearch event but were unable to go because of Meg's treatments. We hope those that were able to attend had a good time and were able to influence our legislators to fund money for Childhood Cancer research. We really need to find a cure for all the kids and adults fighting this disease. There are way too many!
