My sweet Mattie was diagnosed w/Type 1 Diabetes in July of 2004. Mattie has always been calm and content chillin by herself or shopping w/mommy.. She visited her dad that summer in Las Vegas and he told me that she was going to the bathroom a lot. I picked Mattie up 1am and when we got home between 1-6 am she had gone to the bathroom 23 times and got no sleep. She ate 4 bowls of cereal and still was hungry her eyes were saggy and she was very lathargic. I took her to Wee Care and they had us do some blood tests. A couple hours later they told me I had 1 hour to get her to Primary Childrend Hospital.
When we got there they already had a room for her, they rushed us up there and started putting IV's in Mattie, I had no idea what, who, when, why. I grabbed the nurse and asked her why she said Mattie had Type 1 diabetes, and I told the nurse to give her a pill and the nurse laughed and cried w/me.
That is when I said " My daughter has what?" My family and I stayed with her for a week and had a bunch of training on food and shots.
A year after that Mattie was diagnosed w/epilepsy and we still have not yet figured out why she is have these seizures. She is currently taking medication to control them.
