First let me say how overwhelming and humbling it is to have the support, love, prayers, and offers to help from all our friends, family and patients, near and far.

Life was picture perfect until Sunday, April 27 when I got a call from EMS that Matt had had a seizure. Prior to that there were no symptoms, except a minor hand tremble on the Saturday prior.

Thank goodness it has been an uneventful summer. I haven’t updated in over a month.

If you didn’t know Matt’s diagnosis and didn’t notice a tiny patch of missing hair, you’d think everything was fine. Matt is back to running 50 minutes. He biked with Carly at the beach and body surfed many a wave. This Monday he will start his second round of chemo. It is an oral pill taken only five days a month. Matt is fine until days 5, 6 and 7. Exhaustion sets in and walking to the kitchen takes great effort on day 6. “It feels like a flu.” Matt complains digestion seems to grind to a halt, but it does not compare to what some cancer patients have to endure with IV chemo.

After the first round, Matt bounced back on day 8 and worked a full day. Hopefully, he’ll bounce back just as quickly with this next round. Matt’s blood cell count is closely monitored and MRIs will be done every 2 months. His last MRI showed no signs of cancer regrowth. Our next trip down to Duke is early in September. We hope to find out the exact course of treatment. It’s an assumption (don’t know for sure) he’ll do 12 rounds of chemo.

Our new Physical Therapist started while we were away on vacation. That will ease the workload, but Matt has no intentions of slowing down. Kicking back and reading a book is reserved only for vacations.

Again, we thank everyone for your concern and offers to help, but we’d feel guilty accepting help when everything is the ‘new normal.’
