Caring bridge family and friends,
Father Reiser used to say."Last time I checked the crucifixion was before the resurrection."
THE GLORIOUS MYSTERIES
THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS
"The contemplation of Christ's face cannot stop at the image of the Crucified One. He is the risen one." Pope John Paul II
Somewhere in the night , Jesus steps out of the grave with the fire of victory in His heart and and unconquerable joy in His soul. He has triumphed! Although the Scriptures are silent, surely He visited His mother, first among his disciples. Jesus visits us as well, now and at the hour of our death, to bring us to Himself forever.
On the first day of the week, Mary of Magdala came to the tomb early in the morning, while it was still dark, and saw the stone removed from the tomb. John 20:1
Mediation: Mary and the other women journey at dawn to the tomb, to be greeted with the most astounding event in history: Jesus is risen from the dead!
Response: Lord Jesus, help me to seek you faithfully, even when it is most difficult. Thus will I receive You, my greatest reward.
*While they were puzzling over this, behold, two men in dazzling garments appeared to them... They said to them,"Why do you seek the living one among the dead?" Luke 24:4-5
Mediation: Why do we seek the Living One among the dead in faith, dead in sin, or hardened of heart? Jesus, the Lion of Judah, calls us to himself!
Response: O Jesus, forgive me for turning to lifeless idols of pleasure, power, and possessions, while You, the Risen One, invite me instead to receive the fullness of life.
* When Simon Peter arrived...he went into the tomb and saw the burial cloths...Then the other disciple also went in, and he saw and believed. John 20:6-8
Mediation: Peter and John, witnesses of Jesus' suffering and death, were the first apostles to behold the empty tomb. Peter investigated; John saw and believed.
Response: Lord Jesus, many times I have been slow to believe. Please forgive me and call me deeper into the adventure of discovering You.
*But Mary stayed outside the tomb weeping... She turned around and saw Jesus there, but did not know it was Jesus. John 20:11
Mediation: Mary Magdalene wept inconsolably in her "loss"of Jesus- and did not recognize Him standing before her!
Response: O Jesus, how often have I not recognized You in the persons and situations I encounter? Help me to see with new eyes.
* Jesus said to her, "Mary!" She turned and said to him in Hebrew,"Rabbouni,"which means teacher. John 20:16
Mediation: No one can speak our name like Jesus. When the Savior calls, let us answer Him with our whole heart.
Response: O Jesus, gentle shepherd, I long to hear Your voice. Speak only the word and I shall be healed.
*Jesus said to her, "Go to my brothers and tell them, I am going to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God." John 20:17
Mediation: Jesus commissioned Mary as apostle to the apostles. The curse of the fall is lifted- Jesus' Father, and His God is our God. We're back in the family again.
Response: Jesus, You call me Your brother, Your sister, Your friend. Praise God! O Father, I run into your waiting arms!
*Now that very day two of them were going to... Emmaus...And it happened while they were conversing and debating, Jesus himself drew near and walked with them. Luke 24:13-15
Mediation: Although with us always, the Risen Lord draws near at the most unexpected times and in unexpected ways, especially in the Eucharist, His presence par excellence.
Response: O Lord, help me to recognize You today however You may come into my life. "Stay with us, for is is nearly evening."
*He interpreted to them... the scriptures...Then they said to each other, "Were not our hearts burning [within us] while he spoke to us on the way?" Luke 24:27
Mediation: As Jesus opened the minds of His disciples to His Word, their burning hearts bore witness to the Messiah!
Response: Lord Jesus, only You can touch and warm us in the depths of our hearts. As Peter said so long ago, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You alone have the words of eternal life."
* For you will not abandon me to Sheol,/ nor let your faithful servant see the pit. Psalm 16:10
Mediation: A thousand years before Christ, King David declared this promise, and Peter applies it to Jesus in his first sermon: It was impossible for death to hold the Messiah!
Response: Risen Lord, if I follow You, YOU will not abandon me to the nether world, nor allow me to suffer eternal corruption.
*I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die."John 11: 25
Mediation: Jesus, the life that will never die, has definitively conquered sin, death, and the devil. Praise God!
Response: O Jesus, thank You for saving me from death! I receive today Your Resurrection power, power to abide in You and live a life worthy of You now and forever. Alleluia!
The Easter season is celebrated for another month. HE IS RISEN INDEED!!!
