My Story

Matthew earned his angel wings on October 30, 2008.

My bone marrow transplant was March 14, 2007. I recently relapsed and was re-admitted to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital on June 10, 2008, to begin chemo. The hope is to get me into remission so that I can undergo a second bone marrow transplant with a different donor.

Thank you SO much to everyone who posted, emailed or texted me last night and today with your support.  It means so much to me.  I feel as if I'm truly losing my mind sometimes, and it really helps to be able to get some of it out on here.

Colton did come home yesterday.  I called to check on him today and talked to his dad, Ned.  Betty had taken him to the ballpark to see some of his friends.  Ned said that he was really doing well and that he must have had a very special angel watching over him.  It is truly amazing the progress he has made in only a week.  Please keep Colton and his family in your prayers.

Our friend, Austin Bickford, is back in the hospital with an infection and a fever.  Nina sent me a text today that they were at Vandy waiting for a room.  He is finally in a room (6535 on the C pod) and will probably be there for a while.  Please remember Austin and his family in your prayers.  Feel free to send him an e-card to let him know you're thinking about him and praying for him.

I don't remember how but I found the neatest website that makes special jewelry.  It is www.newenglandvillage.org.  New England Village is a residential community where adults with intellectual and related developmental disabilities can lead dignified and enriching lives filled with opportunities for growth and friendship.  They sell what they call True Meaning Jewelry, Exceptional Jewelry by Exceptional People.  I noticed that they offered several awareness bracelets and sent them an email telling them our story and asked if they could make a childhood cancer awareness bracelet.  Today, less than a month later, I received an email from them with a bracelet they designed for childhood cancer awareness.  I can't get the photo to post on here, and they haven't added it to their website just yet.  If you're interested in seeing it, please send me an email and I'll be glad to forward the photo and information to you.  I can't wait to get one.

Also, this is an email that I received from Kim, Charlie's mom.  It's important enough to me that I wanted to post it on here, and I know she won't mind.

As the majority of you know, my brother has started the Charlie Porter Research Grant in Charlie's name.? We're so excited about it.? You can check out the site at www.twilightbenefit.com to learn more about it and order t-shirts or make monetary donations.? I'm sending you this email to let you know about that, but to also let you know we've started a blog to keep people informed as to fundraisers, how close we are to our goal, etc. etc.? Please check it out at www.charlieporterresearchgrant.blogspot.com at the bottom of the page you can click, "follow" and it will keep you informed if you sign up.

Again, thanks for all your support.
