My Story

This is a site we started for our miracle son, Mason. It's a great way to communicate with everyone about Mason and life at the Archibald house.

Mason was diagnosed at 6 days old with bilateral micropthalmia and coloboma. It has been a roller coaster of emotions but we always come out smiling because we are blessed with such a beautiful child. Come, follow along in our journey..

Just a few things to update on……

Mason is recovering well from the surgery. No signs of infection or complications. We’re still doing all the drops but it has become “easy”. We’re enjoying the time away from hospitals and clinics. Detroit is fast approaching again. We’re starting to think about booking the dreaded airline flights. We will most likely leave August 8th for the exam under anesthesia on the 10th and fly home the 11th. We’re hoping all is well so we can get an extended break from trips to Detroit. It will be a little busy for a while as my belly continues to grow and my mobility and comfort decreases. I’m hoping we don’t need to travel too close to our due date and not for a while after so we can get the hang of our bigger family. Speaking of………

We found out this past week that Mason is going to have a baby BROTHER. It’s a boy and we are very happy to know HE is coming so we can prepare for him (no names yet). We still have a lot to do to get ready. Bill and I have to move bedrooms to make room for the little guy upstairs next to Mason. We’re also in the SLOW process of putting in a bathroom downstairs. (A definite necessity with all the changes.) It seems the projects are never-ending. We are due November 15th so we have a little time but I have a feeling November will be here faster than we think.

We also saw Dr. O’Day who is a fetal medicine doctor at the clinic. She did another ultrasound and repeated all the measurements that the doctor did at 11 weeks down at the U of M. They measured the distance between the eyes, outer eye to outer eye, the eye sockets themselves, and the lens circumference in the eyes. We are happy to report that everything is in the 50th percentile (average) for normal growth. We are still unsure if Mason’s sockets are normal size and just the globes (eyeballs) are small or if his socket is also small. (The ultrasound will not pick up small globes.) I still say that we will not know for sure about baby boy Archibald until we see him for ourselves. We continue to pray all will be well but either way, we have been blessed again.

One other quick, yet important thing………with the summer, Mason’s visual progress is being revealed. We are so happy to see him walking in the grass to “pick a dandelion for momma”. He loves to go out in the grass searching for the beautiful yellow dandelion. (You all thought they were such a nuisance yet I think they are so beautiful when picked by my son.) It seems he has great hand-eye coordination; he can spot one, bend down and grab right for it. We were also sitting downstairs last week and he turned around and looked out the window and said “See the trees, momma?” Thank you God for blessing him with enough vision to see the beauties of this world! He may not see everything, but anything is a blessing and we are so thankful.

We hope you all are enjoying your summer and all the fun activities that go along with it. We are looking forward to the 4th of July again this year. If you remember from last year, the last fourth was a great day as we discovered Mason was able to see the fireworks. Every firework is valuable to us and we’re hoping he can stay awake long enough to enjoy the colorful display this year. Stop and enjoy all the beauties of this world and count your blessings. We all have so much to be thankful for.

Loving dandelions,
