This is a site we started for our miracle son, Mason. It's a great way to communicate with everyone about Mason and life at the Archibald house.

Mason was diagnosed at 6 days old with bilateral micropthalmia and coloboma. It has been a roller coaster of emotions but we always come out smiling because we are blessed with such a beautiful child. Come, follow along in our journey..

Life has been busy here at the Archibalds! If one can have patience for the independence struggles of a two year old, the twos are very fun. Mason’s vocabulary has exploded. He says a handful of new words each day and is getting a little easier to understand. His latest words are nite-nite and hug. Hug is used most often if he’s getting talked to about misbehaving. He says “hug” and wants to give a hug. It really is quite cute. Almost makes you forget what he was getting in trouble for. (I think that is his strategy)

Mason has also been practicing his colors. He has added yellow, red and orange to his vocabulary and triumphs. Also, he received flashcards for his birthday and is seeing some of the cards! He knows the hat, doggy, kitty, 2, bed, boat and of course, the colors. I’m not sure what he sees on the card but he knows and remembers the parts he sees and can say what they are. Sometimes I do things on a long shot. For example, I think maybe we should try some flashcards. I figure he probably can’t see them, but who knows. Then we try it and ANOTHER miracle. It’s hard to explain our miracles. They bring us great joy but there are many times that his deficient vision is evident. Just when we are so excited about his successes, he runs into things like a glass door or an eye-level table and we’re reminded that he really is visually impaired. He can’t see like we can, but we remain thankful for every bit. We try to remind ourselves that he is much better than the doctors ever predicted.

Our other exciting news is that Mason went potty for the first (and only) time on his potty this week! Dad was home with him and put him on the potty and thought he heard something. They called me at work so Mason could say “go pee” to me. And don’t worry, Bill saved it so I could see and take a picture of his first pee. Pathetic I know, but necessary for memory. He hasn’t done it since but he will. It was an exciting first for all of us.

We also had Mason’s 2 year pictures taken. You can see them at
