Yesterday was an exciting day at Dr. B's office. I'm sure lots of you remember when Mark was on the KTLA news last October. Quick refresher: Emmett Miller of KTLA came out to the fundraiser at Lucky Strike and interviewed Mark about his condition and the huge outpouring of support from our community. Dr B and his staff saw the last story, found Mark, and offered a consult, which is how we've ended up with this myeloma specialist. Well, Emmett came out to the clinic and did a follow-up interview yesterday while Mark got his treatment. He was shocked to see how great Mark looks today and we were happy to tell him that it was because of his story that we were there and Mark was so much better. Dr. Berenson was also interviewed and got to talk about the Institute for Myeloma and Bone Cancer Research he runs. We're very excited about promoting awareness of the IMBCR and we hope it turns out to be a good story. They are going to film again at the station with Mark in uniform since he's back at work and it should air sometime in late July. I'll update when I know for sure- even though I really, really hope my part doesn't air. Mark and Dr. B did great! I, on the other hand am a total sap!
So, maintenance therapy has begun. Mark's still in remission and we're hoping and praying this time it lasts much longer than last time! He's feeling good, and looking good. Things seem to be going great. Dr. B is very pleased with his progress. Mark's happy to only have treatment twice a month now instead of four! He's going to see the back surgeon in July too....we'll find out if he gets cleared to go back to full duty. As long as Mark keeps feeling good, it looks like he should be able to without a problem. He definitely doesn't have as much back pain as he did before the surgery.
The girls are doing well too. Madison is officially on summer break. Ashley graduates from pre-school on Thursday and she will be on break too. We don't have any major summer plans- just swimming lessons, pool, beach, Soak City, you know, fun in the sun kids play! I'll still have school all summer. Only two weeks away from starting 3rd semester! This time next year I'll be done!! Time is flying!
Today I am thankful summer is here! I love this time of year…when I graduate, do you think someone will hire a nurse that requires all summers off???
