Just a quick note to let you know that we are doing well. Each day gets a little better, and we are finding a little more laughter and fewer tears.
Marcus' 7th grade teacher came by on Thursday and shared with me the news that his school would like to create an award in Marcus' honor. It will recognize the student who shows the most strength, perseverance and determination. I can't tell you how incredibly special that is to us. As she was telling me about it, it dawned on me that Marcus had actually only attended the school for about 4 months. Then it got me to thinking (I know, uh oh). In describing Marcus' passing, a lot have said that his life was too short. Was it really? Or had he simply done all he was here to do? I think of all of the lives that he touched in so many ways and the great impact he has had on all of us. Perhaps his work was truly done.
We also received the exciting news from the donor service that Marcus' heart valves have been transplanted!!! What a comfort in knowing that a part of that big heart lives on somewhere and is helping another heart to beat. It is really a blessing to know that a part of the earthly Marcus is still with us.
I could go on and on, but I don't want to write the book here :-) But I did want to let you know that we are doing ok. Mariah is enjoying school, dance and cheerleading, and I am resting and restoring in preparation for returning to work in October. I had no idea how incredibly tired I was until I finally sat down and let it catch up to me.
We are doing well, but we still want to hear from you
:-) Don't worry about not knowing what to say, it just means a lot to know that you care.
(sorry for the funky format, but for some reason the spacing between paragraphs isn't working out for me today...)
