Another update this week! Tuesday the kids were at the dentist in the morning. Maggie's 6 year molars are "ectopic", meaning they are stuck behind her baby teeth. For now, we'll just watch it....but the reality is that we may have to pull them. We do sedation dentistry to do a cleaning. She would definitely need to be under anesthesia for that procedure.
Then, it was off to Madison. The vercet (valium) was still working and we all had a very peaceful ride to Madison. We met with Maggie's ENT who has a wonderful sense of humor.......we don't come across that often. Maggie's adneoids are blocking 90% of her airway. She found her oral cavity to be very crowded and suggested removing her adenoid and tonsils. She'll be healthier, as we should have less sinus & strep infections. Hopefully, she'll breath better as it won't be as much of a struggle. The variable is feeding. With a larger airway, Maggie is liable to aspirate, which we've never had a problem with to date. Feeding can't get much worse than where we are at now. We have to create quite the circus environment to get her to open her mouth.
Amazing how when you put your feelings/emotions out there, resources open up. Through Maggie's physical therapist, we learned of a healthcare agency that specializes in private duty nursing. I checked into this years ago, but for whatever reason Maggie wasn't eligible. Maggie has 60 visits of skilled care nursing available through our private insurance carrier. There is a nurse that might be available in Delavan to possibly allow us 12 hour shifts.
As we all look forward to celebrating the 4th of July weekend, let's keep all of our brave men and women in the military in our thoughts and prayers. I was reminded on my work to keep things in perspective. Sometimes I feel like we are in a battle against and unknown enemy. Yet, then I look around at my home with my loved ones near and realize Maggie's issues are just a hurdle we need to tackle. I'm blessed to have my family under one roof, than millions of miles away facing unknown danger. So, today I draw from their strength and wish everyone a Happy 4th of July!!!
