WE HAVE CLEAN SCANS!!!!!! We just finally got home about 10 minutes ago. Madelaine did have some difficulty waking up after her MRI in the recovery room. We tired everything to get her to take some juice or a popsicle, but she wanted nothing to eat or drink and just wanted to sleep. We missed her next appointment because we were still in the recovery room trying to get her to wake up (They were able to fit us in, when we left the recovery room). All of her vitals signs were good, so the nurses told us that if we felt comfortable leaving with her not drinking anything, we could go. We felt safe doing this since we had more appointments through the day. Madelaine was awake at Dr. Laack's(radiation doctor at Methodist Hospital) appointment. Madelaine's test results were good but her MRI showed lots of inflammation in all of her sinuses. Dr. Laack tested her coordination, which is off just a little. Dr. Laack then came with us to see her oncology team and discuss the results. Between the two doctors they decided to put Madelaine on a antibiotic for 21 days to see if the inflammation comes down and they also referred us to ENT to see what our next step will be. They are looking for answers to why all the inflammation. Two possibilities now are scar tissue or inflammation from the radiation. Dr. Laack discussed maybe sending Madelaine to see a neurologists for further exams on her coordination, but we are going to wait and see if this gets better after the antibiotics. They are thinking if this is a sinus infection/fluid on the ear, that could be causing some in-balance. Madelaine did fall back to sleep after seeing Dr. Laack and slept through her next exam with Dr. Rodriguez (her oncology doctor). We then went back to St. Marys to get her prescription filled and Madelaine and Randy waited in the car because she was still sleeping. Madelaine slept all the way home and just opened her eyes and said she didn't feel very good. We can't wait for the day that Madelaine can lay still enough for 2 whole hours to do her MRI without being put to sleep. We want to thank everyone for all the prayers, they were answered today! Madelaine's next scans are in three months. Again, we can't thank everyone enough for all the prayers and support that has been given to us. It means so much to us to be able to share this journey with all of you.
