Another semiannual doc visit at Barrow today. It's now been 2 1/2 years since the accident. Every visit, there are always people in the same waiting room as us, waiting to see the same doc as us, that never made it out of their wheelchair. It's a stark reminder to us on how lucky Kenz is/was to recover as well as she has/will. The docs have big smiles when they see Kenz again, they still call her Mack. Wow, she sure has grown since we saw her in January, they say. How tall are you now Mack, they ask.
I imagine Kenz is a stark reminder to the docs that she is a success story, a product of aggressive rehab not long after her injury. Not too long ago, Mackenzie's type injury would have been treated with complete bed rest until the back injury healed. But with nerve connections, there is no exact science. Not all Kenz's connections are back yet but she has time on her side. B-day #14 is in two weeks.
We are grateful to Spooners Sports Rehab who continues to work with Kenz twice a week. Mackenzie has recently said she wants to be able to run again, maybe even run a race. I wouldn't put it past her.
Go Mack! Go Kenz!
