As many of you know, my story began in 2006 when a spot on my right wrist turned out to be an advanced melanoma. At that time I was having difficulty getting adequate treatment, especially without insurance. But then my friend, Dr. Theresa Goebel offered me a job at her family practice in Hobe Sound and this enabled me to get some insurance. Many of you remember Theresa from our church back when she lived in Boca. Fortunately, the melanoma was removed and treated with localized chemotherapy into the right arm which we thought was successful. My right arm is not what it was before, but it did earn me the nickname "Lefty" at the office. Well, the following year, I was diagnosed with colon cancer (which was unrelated to the melanoma). I then earned the nickname "Lucky" at the office! Anyway this was removed and I had chemo for that too during most of 2009 which appeared to be successful (even got to keep my hair!) Just when I thought I really was lucky, I received the PET scan results this month (April). It is showing a 2 cm nodule in the perihilar area of my lungs. A biopsy is to be scheduled to determine whether this might be from the melanoma, or from the colon cancer. Your prayers and words of encouragement throughout all this have been great. My Christian faith is the source of my strength, and this is what will continue to carry me through my journey. God Bless!
