Lucas Neil’s Story

Site created on July 12, 2009

On June 26th, Lucas Neil was brought into this world at 3:44pm, 15 weeks early (25 weeks gestation), via C-section at UAMS in Little Rock. Momma was diagnosed with preeclampsia. After 3 magnesium trips within a week my BP would not budge. So, Lucas is off to an uphill climb starting at 1lb. 7oz.

FYI - a micro preemie is born under 1200 grams or 28 weeks or earlier.

As the school year draws near and our time at the Ronald McDonald House comes to an end, we will be spending less time at Arkansas Children's Hospital.  While we do not want to leave Lucas at the hospital alone, it is not financially possible for either of us to stay.  I am planning to be on maternity leave closer to Lucas' homecoming from the hospital.

Chris and I will be at the hospital often during the weeknights and weekends.  Please be aware that visitors are only permitted one person at a time when accompanied by a parent.  If you have not met Lucas or wish to visit him again, please make arrangements with Chris or myself before you make the drive to Little Rock. His: 479.264.1304  Hers: 479.970.1131  Always leave a message.  If we're visiting Lucas our phones will be on silent.

We appreciate all of the emotional, financial, and prayer support from friends and family.  Please continue to follow the journal updates and sign the guestbook.  Thank you so much!

Journal entry by Dana Sumter

It has been over 5 years since Lucas Neil Sumter made his dramatic entrance into this world weighing just 1lb 7oz!
The next two weeks brings the close of his pre-school chapter at MiChild-Friendship Pediatric Services and the opening of a brand new chapter as he begins kindergarten.
It will be a couple of weeks of reflection and discussion for Lucas and Momma as we both make sure we are ready for this next chapter.
