Mike’s Story

We wanted to let everyone know that surgery has been scheduled for Thursday, January 17, at 10:00 AM at Meridian Park Hospital in Tualatin. The surgery is scheduled to take approximately 4 hours and it is possible that I may be out of the hospital in 4-5 days.

We are incredibly fortunate to have the care and friendship of two incredible doctors that have been a huge comfort through all of this (Mike Sheffield and Brent Evetts). We are feeling great about the guidance and positive prognosis that we have received. This is a stage 1 cancer that likely can be eradicated with surgery alone. We will know for sure once surgery is completed, but all indicators are positive at this point. The estimated recovery time is approximately 2-3 weeks, most of which will be at home.

We will provide an update once surgery is complete on Thursday. We continue to appreciate the many positives that we have found in all of this. We have been surrounded by friends and family who are supportive, caring and concerned. Thanks to everyone for the support, positive thoughts and prayers – we appreciate all of you.

Latest Journal Update

No news is good news

Sorry for the lack of updates but Mike's progress has been, well, kind of boring. He continues to heal and pass new milestones. Just in the last week Mike stopped use of all pain medication, started driving, and even went into work for a meeting. Starting tomorrow he will resume working for a few hours every morning. So all in all, everything is really positive. Next stop - world's strongest man competition.

Contributing to the very positive vibe, little Harper continues to grow and deliver tons of smiles. Already Mike has taught Harper how to sit, lie down, and stay...at least for a few seconds. We all think they got a special puppy.

While the process has become a little monotonous for us on the outside looking in, let's not forget that the road to full recovery is still long and full of a lot of work. So please keep the positive thoughts and prayers coming as I know Mike and the entire family really appreciate the support and feed off the positive energy.
