Leland’s Story

Leland was born 8/30/09. He was born with his bladder on the outside of his body. The Dr's feel his surgery was sucessfull.

Leland was born at St. Johns Hospital on 8/30/09 at 7:12pm. He weighed 9# 2 oz and is 21.5 inches long. He was born by emergency C-section. Bri was not awake for his birth, and Andy was not allowed in the surgery suite. Soon after his birth he was held for a few moments by his dad, and able to meet his grandparents and aunties. Life Link transported Leland to St. Paul Childrens hospital. He was awake, looking around, and appeared to be comfortable.

Bri has been transported to the ICU at St. Johns hospital due to a condition called HELLP syndrome. This condition causes her blood not to clot like expected, and has also  caused renal issues (urine) for Bri and liver problems as well.

Bri was flown to Mayo clinic, survived a liver transplant but succomed to her brain herniating from the pressure in her head. Bri passed away on 9/13/09.

Leland was discharged home from the hospital on Sept. 15 2009.

Nov. 15th 2009 a benefit was held at O'gara's garage in St. Paul. Over 3,000 people attended. Money was raised to pay medical bills, and help the Heroux family adjust to their life without Bri. The sun was shining and the day was perfect. Leland attended with his Dad, and was on many news casts that evening. The event was very sucessful.

Latest Journal Update

Today is Bri's birthday. As we feel her loss in our own way, I invite you to join us in a walk to remember her.  Last year I co-chaired the Preeclampsia walk at Lake Phalen. This year my co-chair Miranda and I will be walking at Lake Cornelia in Edina. The money donated that day will be divided  and given to Childrens Hospital. St. Paul will recieve money in memory of Bri, and Msp will recieve money in memory of Garrett Childers.
We will meet and walk at 10:00am Saturday May 7th. There are picinic tables available for a family picinic if the weather permits. This is an informal walk, and a chance to be with others who have been touched by Preeclampsia. Hope to see you there. Any questions? Contact Joyce via email
