Kylie Doniak's Journal
Wednesday Week 10
Written Apr 18, 2012 10:09pm by Alyssa DoniakKylie's Homecoming! :)Psalms 63:7"For you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy. My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me."Hello everyone!Today was a great day and it was filled with many special moments! The first was Kylie's homecoming, of course. She is now out of the rehab center that we were in for the past month, and tomorrow she will start a day program where she lives at home and goes to therapy during the day. As Kylie pulled into our neighborhood, she was greeted with the most amazing outpouring of love. All of our incredible neighbors had signs on their lawns saying 'Welcome Home Kylie' and they decorated our driveway with chalk welcoming her home and telling her they love her. I definitely shed quite a few tears after seeing all of it and I know I speak for my mom, dad, and sisters when I say how appreciative and completely speechless we were to arrive home in such a way. We are all just so thankful and blessed.John 13:35 "By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another."Ky coming home is very exciting, but it also puts a little more pressure on all of us (especially my mom) to be the best nurses we can be! We will be on call at all times so hopefully we can fulfill our duty. I have faith in my dad, mom and Makenzy so I am not too worried. :) Pray for us to give her what she needs to return at full strength.Kylie is walking around without her cane and talking up a storm, and all of the doctors and therapists are extremely impressed with her progress. We are so thankful that she has done so well so far and we cannot wait to see the progress that she will continue to make at her new rehab center. She also went to Makenzy's soccer game last weekend and really enjoyed it. And of course Makenzy had to show-off and score a goal for her :)Kylie has had many visitors, which she always recognizes- yay! Shane, her boyfriend, has been to California a couple of times and we are always blessed when he comes to visit because he is always making us laugh. Shane's parents have been here as well, and they are even flying in this weekend! They are such amazing people and I know my family is thanking God everyday that Kylie chose such incredible people to have in her life in Texas. They are slowly getting used to our California ways! While Ky is doing so well, we still have prayer requests! Obviously God has been listening and working in her because everything we have asked for He has provided. So the new things that you can all be praying for are her short term memory because she really doesn't remember anything for very long, which means we have to repeat things over and over. Hopefully that will come with time. The other requests are for her to sleep all through the night, for her confusion, and for her understanding. She gets very confused a lot and that is part of her coming into more and more reality, but it is hard for her and for us because there are things she just doesn't understand sometimes. Her sentences don't always make sense, but lately this has been getting a lot better and she puts the correct words into her sentences more often. Pray for her speech to keep improving and for her knee to not cause her as much pain. She talks about her knee hurting and limps sometimes when she walks, so pray for pain management and no swelling.Pray for my family's patience to continue on without end and pray that we can learn to adjust to this change. Pray also that Kylie does well in her new rehab center and that the therapists are knowledgeable and work well with her.Thank you again for your prayers and your support and your love. I also want to thank everyone at Rancho Los Amigos because we met some amazing people there who we will not forget. This really is a journey and we never know where we're going next.
Written Apr 8, 2012 11:28pm by Alyssa Doniak"For I will walk by faith, even when I cannot see... because this broken road prepares your will for me."Today was the best Easter that my family could ever have asked for. Kylie was able to leave the hospital for a little field trip and come to my grandparent's house for the day. When we got there we opened some little gifts and she had a really great time, as did we all! We got to eat delicious food (thanks to grandma and grandpa), play Uno, hunt for Easter eggs, and dance to some music. Of course Kylie found the 'Golden Egg' and beat me and Kenzy at hunting for eggs by finding the most. Nothing has changed! It was an amazing day and we were all thanking God continuously for His healing hand. It was clear that Kylie was happy to be around her family and she is making huge strides every day.Keep praying for us and Kylie because your prayers are evident every single day. We are continuously thanking God and all of our friends and family because it has only been 10 weeks (such a short amount of time in the big picture) and Kylie is already showing her personality. She truly is God's little miracle to us and so many others.Happy Easter and remember to say a special prayer of thanks to the One who has forgiven us for our sins so that we may have life while we were still sinners. All the glory from Kylie's progress goes to Him!I added some new photos so you can all see what Kylie has been up to!
Saturday Week 10
Written Apr 7, 2012 2:10pm by Alyssa Doniak1 John 3:18 "Let's not only love in word or tongue, but in deed and in truth."
Hi family and friends!
Ky continues to do amazing! She is more and more aware of things every day and knows everyone who comes to visit her. She has a lot of personality and it is such a blessing to see that coming through. Her short term memory is not really there yet, but the therapist told us that is one of the last things to come back because it is such a higher order of thinking. She doesn't know where she is at every time we ask and it takes a lot of prompting to get her to say where she is.
There have been so many ups and downs, but thankfully more ups than downs! Kylie went bowling yesterday with my mom, sister, and some of her soccer friends. She did so good! She rolled the ball down the lane all by herself!
She got her feeding tube out this week, so that's great and now we are just praying for everything to heal up nicely and quickly.
Please pray for Kylie's wounds to keep healing and for her brain to keep healing itself. Pray that she isn't confused and frustrated as she becomes more aware of her surroundings and circumstances. Pray also for my parents! They are working so hard to keep Kylie as comfortable as possible, but even they need their rest and break time every once in a while. Ask God for strength for them and for the perseverance to carry on each and every day as we go through this journey.
Thank you for the prayers and support and as always, we love you all so much! We couldn't do this without all of your help and of course without our faith. God's still got this!
