End of Month 5
Written Jun 25, 2012 8:07pm by Alyssa Doniak"Seek the Lord while he may be found; call upon him while he is near... For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts."Isaiah 55:6,9Hello friends and family,Here is an update on Kylie and her progress..Kylie is still struggling with her short term memory. She is making very small improvements each day though. The memories don't last from day to day, but she has remembered a few things after they have happened. She doesn't remember everything or answer correctly all the time, but sometimes when we prompt her she can remember the little details about her day, which is a small victory! We still need a ton of prayer for her memory to keep improving and for her brain to keep healing itself!Therapy has been the most trying thing for Kylie, and for my family. She is no longer attending therapies at the rehab center because she refuses to participate. We have engaged in a new type of therapy where therapists come to our house. Kylie still refuses to participate sometimes when they come to our house, which is the most difficult part of the journey so far for us. She gets mad whenever the word therapy is mentioned or when she sees a therapist. It worries us because this window of time is so important for her to receive as much help as possible in her healing process. She has been refusing all her therapies though, and we really feel like we have tried all our avenues in this realm. This is where we need the most prayer so she can heal as much as possible in this phase of her recovery. Pray for her to not be so negative anytime she hears the word therapy and anytime she sees a therapist. Please pray for knowledge and perseverance for my mom and my family on this part of the journey because our faith is tested every day right now. When she is not engaging in therapies and hearing the word 'therapy', she is very sweet and always does whatever we ask her to do. She helps out around the house, she makes her bed every morning, she sets the table for dinner, and she always helps us empty the dishwasher! :) She wants to speak to others and share her story of how God got her through this crazy journey. She wants to share her faith with others and help them persevere through their battles because she got through hers! It is very inspiring to hear her talking about this :)The last thing I want to mention is an amazing event that some of our neighbors and friends are putting on to fundraise for Kylie. It is a golf tournament that is taking place at Los Serranos Country Club on July 28th. I attached a flyer to this post, but you can contact Don Herold at Donherold@verizon.net or Brian Lerg at Brian@authenticdealer.com for more information!Thank you everyone for your continuing prayers and support. We are staying strong on this journey because of our amazing circle of friends and family, and of course because of God! Keep praying and thanking God each day!"Look to the Lord and His strength, continually; seek His face always."Psalm 105:4

Oh continue your steadfast love to those who know you, and your righteousness to the upright of heart!"Hello everyone!First off, my family and I want to extend an enormous thank you to all of the college coaches who participated in the Coaches for Kylie Camp last weekend. It was an amazing turnout and we can not believe how many coaches donated their precious time to help out Kylie and my family. There really are no words, and I know that these actions are the result of prayer and faith! We are overwhelmed with gratitude toward everyone who put this event on - Steve and Kathy Hoffman, Cal South, Ramon Reid, and Neil McGuire. We are the new biggest fans of the University of Washington, Fresno State, Saint Mary's, Cal, :)Kylie is making small improvements here and there, but it has been a plateau for awhile now. She is walking, but has a lot of difficulty with strength, endurance, and balance. Her knee still causes her extreme pain and frequently inhibits her ability to get stronger physically. Mentally, Kylie still has severe short term memory loss which makes learning new tasks almost impossible. We are working on her memory and cognitive functions every day. The higher 'executive' functions of the brain, such as her emotions and her ability to filter what she should and shouldn't say, are impaired. It is difficult for her to self monitor, focus, not get distracted, and she is very impulsive. When she is challenged physically or mentally, she lashes out with negative comments and excuses. It is very hard to see because it is so opposite of her usual personality. She is uncomfortable talking to people on the phone because she can't remember and doesn't know things (or so she thinks) so she can't really keep a conversation going, and she knows that. Most of the time, she is aware that she doesn't know stuff and she feels bad she has to ask so many questions over and over again. She does know what happened to her from what we've told her, but does not remember the accident. This past week she spent a lot of time trying to get a grip on the enormity of what happened to her and why. She did ask about who did this and hoped that he was jail because 'clearly he was a bad driver and shouldn't be allowed to drive again and hurt someone' (Kylie's words). She will do almost anything we ask, go anywhere with us, and is so glad to be safe and at home. She constantly asks if she should get a job and is always willing to help out around the house.Continue to pray for her short term memory to be restored, for her to handle frustration and challenges better to benefit her. Pray for my family's strength and patience, as always, and pray that God keeps healing Kylie and using us for His will. Thank you all!!!
