My Story

Kirra O'Connor was diagnosised with PNET July 23rd, 2008. She has been having chemotherpy since August 1. Her last MRI was in May, and we have seen some shrinkage.  We will count our blessings, and hope that slow and steady wins the race!  Our summer will continue this treatment, and fall will be a new challange.

Sorry for the lack of updates.  We went to clinic finally on Tuesday for chemo.  Kirra's counts were finally up, and she did an awesome job at clinic.  It was so fun to see her running around with her IV pole, playing with the scanner, and behaving pretty darn good.  We talked with Dr Bendel, and decided to do Kirra's MRI in mid-August (Aug 13).  We're hoping and praying that this will be good news, as always.

After the long delay with Kirra's chemo, when we started giving Temodar again.  This med has always given Kirra a really upset tummy, and this cycle is no exception.  The first night she was up all night long throwing up.  She had me so scared because she didn't want to wake up until 2:00 in the afternoon Wednesday.  I don't blame her, it had been a really rough night, but I'm so used to seeing her up and about that sleeping Kirra was unsettling.  She woke up and by the end of the night she was back to her old self again.  We've got 2 days of this med left, and we'll be glad when it's done, just in time for our camping trip.  Kirra also has an ear infection, with she's on anti-biotics for.  I'm sure the combination of the 2 meds, that both cause tummy upset, is the reason for the "festival of puke" we're having this week (catchy name, I bet everyone wants to come to that festival).  The one sanity saving fact I must remember is, each day on the med, she gets less nauseous, and we're close to the end.

Kirra had the coolest thing happen last night.  As many of you know, Kirra has been wanting to "ride a horsie"  for a little while now.  Last night we were gardening in the back yard, when one of the people from the neighboring farm was riding her newest horse.  She stopped and talked to us for a while, and Kirra got to pet the horse, which she was just loving.  The rider asked Kirra is she wanted to ride the horse, which Kirra was absolutely thrilled about.  Skippy (the horse) and Kirra both did great!  We got a couple pictures and I'm sure I'll be putting them up later today or tomorrow, so keep an eye out.  Well it's been an eventful week for sure.  For the 4th we'll be at the Chanhassen Parade, and then off to Lake Waconia for fireworks, then back to our house, or someone's house to do our own fireworks.  Hope everyone's 4th is fantastic, and you have a great weekend!!!
