Appointmentwent well with hand surgeon. He was impressed with the movement kevin hasalready. Only seven weeks since the last and surgery. Kevin will continue goingto Anacortes twice a week to his hand therapist. She will increase theexercises and soon can do some weight lifting. Once (hopefully) twice a week tophysical therapy for his shoulder on Lopez. He will have one more surgery in2-4 mo...nths on his hand. Thissurgery is called debulking. They will lift the flap (graft) on his hand andremove the extra fat/tissue. This will help it have a more normal appearance. They will also remove the small graft on the inside of his wrist and stitch thespot shut. This graft was originally put in to allow a little more room for theblood supply that attached to the hand graft, that came from his forearm. It isnot needed anymore. Four more appointments at Harborview in the next few weeks.Hope they all bring good news. Of course none of them can be on the same day!
Healing - Slow, Steady Progress
Written Nov 20, 2013 5:10pm by Suzanne OlsonFrom Caroline (11/20/13): Quick update! Kevin's skin graft's are healing. The hand is still swollen and will be for quite some time. He started physical therapy on his hand/elbow last week. He has hand therapy there every Tuesday and Thursday in Anacortes. He has a long road a head of him but, is making progress. He must do hand exercises every hour and shoulder exercises 3 times per day. He starts physical therapy for the shoulder in two weeks. He can do this therapy on Lopez for the shoulder. We have a physical therapist coming to our house today just to be sure he is doing the exercises that Harborview gave his correctly. We are hoping he may be back at work sometime early in the new year when his sick leave runs out. We are leaving tomorrow with the kids to drive Andrew to California. He is attending the Northwest Lineman College. Class begins on November 25th. Will try and keep you updated on our journey!
