On October 18th, 2010, Ken was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.  It was a complete surprise!  Ken immediately began aggressive chemotherapy.  Ken wasn't able to leave Marquette General Hospital for almost a month.

On October 31st, Ken and Kathie's daughter, Krissy, and her husband, Chris, gave birth to their first child, Cody.  He was such a blessing during an otherwise difficult time.

In late November, Ken and Kathie travelled down to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, to seek more specialized treatment.  Ken was going to need a bone marrow transplant.  Ken's only sibling, Howard, very willingly volunteered to be tested for a match.  Unfortunately, he wasn't.  The doctors started searching the national donor database.

While waiting for a match, Ken underwent more chemotherapy and numerous blood transfusions while staying at home in Marquette, MI.

On January 14th, 2011, Ken and Kathie received the great news -- they found a match!  Ken and Kathie were told that they needed to be in Rochester, MN, by February 1st.  They are preparing for an estimated three month stay.

Kathie drove to Mayo on our last trip to Mayo in mid-January for day-long appointments.  They want to keep going down this road for now.  We got a great deal of snow while we were gone.  My neighbor asked if we wanted the driveway blown out, which we said for sure.

Went to see Dr. Politi, a neurologist, last week.  He also recommends to not change anything right now.

On 1/20/12 I went for a pentadini treatment which I had a reaction to. It will take at least a month for this to work out of my system.  Have difficulty breathing.

Since that time I go once a week for blood tests, Doctors appointments, and infusion.

Next week we will drive to Mayo again.  Schedule will be very extensive on the first day.  We will finish on the second day and then drive back.

Ken
