Kelly’s Story

Welcome to my page! Thanks for all the love & support! I couldn't get thru this without my wonderful family & friends!

I'll try my best to keep this as up to date as possible.

In August of 2008 I went to the doctor for some back pain that I had been having for awhile now. I was sent for a chest xray. They noticed something and sent me for a CT Scan. After the results of the CT came back the decided they needed to biopsy the mass the see what it was. It came back as Stage 4 metastatic melanoma. The worst stage of melanoma you could have. I instantley thought the worst. I couldn't stop crying. My doctor gave me lists of doctors I needed to call and set up appointments with. Nick and I left the doctors office in a haze. After I calmed down enough I called and set up the appointments. They were spred out thru outan entire month. I think after that we went to my parents house to tell them. Then we just called the restof the family abd my friends. It's all such a blur beause I was a crying mess.
After a couple of days I decided to call Karmanos Cancer Center. My first appointment with them lasted a good 8 hours because they got me in for a MRI that very same day. I cancelled all my other appointments I had made and have been with Karmanos ever since. I've done experimental drugs, chemo and radiation. My tumors have shrunk by about 35-40% so I'm pretty happy with that. I currently finished my 2nd round of IL-2 treatment and my left shoulder where the main tumor is located feels alot better so hopefully it has done it's job. I have to wait 4-8 weeks before I can have any scans to see if thetumors have shrunk since the IL-2 takes longer to work than regular chemo. I just can't wait for the day I can say that I am cancer free!!!!

I have some wonderful, awesome, fabulous, great, spectacular news :) :) :) :)

Are you ready????

You sure???

My doctor said that I am in confirmed PARTIAL REMISSION!!!!!!!!!!!

I was near tears when she told me this yesterday! I had another CT Scan last week and the tumors shrunk a little bit more bringing the grand total of shrinkage since I started this drug to 35-40%!!!!!!

I am SOOOOO happy =) Especially since I had myself all worked up thinking it was starting to grow again because about 1am Wednesday morning I woke up and the spot on my shoulder where this all started hurt like a motherfucker! It hasn't hurt like that in a long time. I was crying and I could not sleep for the rest of the night :/ My damn Ativan was no help either!! Thankfully all is good. It does not hurt anymore and I have a nice new bottle of Xanax to celebrate with!!!
