Life never ceases to be bizarre. Kate was supposed to go in for a spinal tap on Tuesday, but instead we got home Monday to an answering machine full of messages from her nurse to call her before we drive down for the procedure.
So, when I get ahold of her I find out that way back when Kate's original nurse (who has since "moved on") figured out Kate's protocol calendar incorrectly. Instead of being done with chemo in September, as we had thought, she was really supposed to be done already two months ago!
So that's it. No big foo-forah. She's just done with chemo. That doesn't exactly mean she's done completely yet. We still need to go in for check-ups and blood work once a month for the next two years. This is the time when we see if the leukemia is really gone or was just pushed into recession by the chemo drugs. We also need to schedule a time for surgery to remove her port. But, (God willing there is no relapse) we are through with treatment and the hundreds of pills a month are history :-)
So whoo-hoo! This is a great thing. Thank you all so much for sticking by us through all this. Please continue to keep Kate in your prayers as we get through the next couple years and get the 'all clear' sign.
