My Story

This is in memory of our 7 year old Madeline Kate Stephens, who had her first seizure & stroke on 4/2/08 and was in the hospital until she went to be with the Lord on 7/13/08. She was diagnosed the week of her passing with the Mitochondrial Disease MELAS, but 3 weeks after her passing, the blood test came back negative. Doctors still suspect that, but we will never know.

Two weeks from today, will be one year that sweet Kate left us.  Today is no easier than that day itself.  If anything it is worse, because we know she is not ever coming back.  My mind is so consumed with thoughts of this time last year and how we only had a few days left of hearing her little voice.  How we had no idea of what was to come.  Only a few days left to kiss, hug and take care of her.  Only a few days left until all hope was shattered beyond our belief.  Only a few days of being a family of four.  I struggle to get out of bed.  I struggle to breathe.  I struggle to be me and am numb...just overwhelmingly numb.
