Karuna has a bit of a cold right now. I can't complain...she has been reasonably well for about a month and thus far this one is pretty mild. We are doing lots of suctioning and extra sessions with her vibrating Vest to get secretions/mucus out of her lungs. Her usual pattern is to develop the breathing issues on day 4 or 5 of the illness, so we will just have to wait and see if her new "pulmonary hygiene" routine will prevent that.
She has not had a fever with this one and her autonomic issues are pretty stable thus far, other than her having some real low heartrates here and there.
We are having big issues with school placement. Karuna was finally placed in a Chicago Public School on July 1, a mere three months after they told me we would have her placement. I had heard through the grapevine that the school was not too excited about taking her, and upon calling them to set up a tour and visit, I was told they would not take her because she is too complicated and severely affected for their programs. So now her file goes back to the downtown placement office. Perhaps if they actually bother to read the file they will actually place her in an appropriate school!
Our nursing situation has improved slightly. We now have the time I will be in the hospital fully covered and about 3 additional shifts have been picked up during July. The state agency that runs her Medicaid waiver is suggesting that we change agencies after the baby is born. They actually found 2 that are willing to take her! We'll see how things go.
Hopefully Karuna will get through this illness without any problems!
