Karen’s Story

Site created on September 6, 2008

Welcome to my CaringBridge site. It has been created to keep friends and family updated on my treatment and how things are going in my battle against breast cancer.

It is sometimes hard to think of what to say when faced with a blank page but here goes...

Hans and I found out I was pregnant pretty early but we opted to wait a few weeks to tell everyone. We were both super excited because we've been wanting to add to our family. I was feeling very tired but the nausea wasn't as bad as with Andrew. I guess chasing after a 15 month old adds to the normal fatigue of the first trimester. About two weeks before my first OB visit I noticed a really sore spot on my left breast. I figured it was just because of the pregnancy but I did some investigating and discovered a lumpy area. I thought it was scar tissue from a previous surgery (which, by the way, has nothing to do me getting cancer) but I decided to have it checked out anyway. I was sent for an ultrasound and a couple hours later I got a call telling me I had an appointment the next morning to get a biopsy done. Two days later the surgeon called me to tell me I had cancer.
Even though this is not something that I wanted and it's not something that I want to go through I have been just overwhelmed by the love, support and prayers from everyone I have come in contact with over the past week. I decided to set this site up so that I can share what is happening in this journey. I don't know what the future holds but I do know Someone who does and I know that because of all the incredible people praying for me that my name is well known to Him. I trust that God will guide us as we walk this path.
