My Story

Welcome to our CaringBridge site. It has been created to keep friends and family updated on my surgery and recovery.

Hello friends, I'm Karen, 54 years young and recently diagnosed with cancer in my right breast. I am a grandmother to four, mother to three, and wife to one, my sweet husband of 35 years, Mike.

Mom took a trip today to see my cousin at Cedar Creek. She was much peppier to be going on an outing after laying around the house for a few days. She's back at home with Randy and sounds pretty tired but not too bad. She's coming back over tomorrow. It was her decision, she's not ready to stay home alone yet.

I am still hurting, mostly my right side. Could be from the drain falling out prematurely, but I'm no doctor. Could just be the big cut under my boobs. I'm still tired a lot and hoping I won't crash and burn when I try go to work on Monday. But I have 3 days to feel better before I have to think about work. It's so hot outside, I really just don't want to leave the house. I wouldn't mind going to the beauty parlor for a haircut, though. I might be able to rally for that trip.

My cousin Cindy had a mini stroke this week but she is already at home. She has hardening of the arteries caused by smoking cigarettes and some damage to her neck and brain. Please pray for her, she has to quit smoking immediately and I have heard from other smokers that it is very difficult to quit, but not impossible. My mother-in-law quit a few years before she passed away from emphysema.

My friend Phoebe came by with a big bowl of spaghetti and meatballs the other day and came back by today with her grand-daughter Karissa, and spent some time visiting. Thanks, Phoebs. Love the spaghettie, it was delicious and enjoyed the company.

The grand-daughters are in Maryland visiting their other grandparents and Lacey and her family are in Missouri visiting her kid's other grandparents so it's just us adults around here for a while. Hmm, I feel a little lost without my grandkids to entertain me. On the bright side, we don't have to worry about tripping on a toy. Unless it's a man-toy like a golf ball. I caught Mike hitting one in the living room a while ago. Mostly, we've been laying around on the couches being lazy.

As always, thank you for the prayers and keep them coming. I'm not out of pain yet!
Love, Karen
